Went with the popular 19" OEM Rays +size rubber

255/40/19 rear and 245/35/19 front. With the front tire being 20mm wider, the sidewall finally looks normal (instead of slanted inward) and the rears look natural as well. There were 3x as many tire options with this size compared with OEM and no back-orders which was not the case for OEM size. I can definitely see why everyone picks this VDC-friendly size for the Rays.

Falken FK452 was my flavor of choice - also a popular option on driver, so I'm a complete lemming following everyones' lead here. $800 after tax at a small town installer that's known for good prices.

Inside of front original RE050's had pretty good feathering. Gotta pay to play.

I'll eventually confirm speedo difference with a portable GPS. From the size calculators, I should be driving 79 on the speedo if I want to be doing 80. I'm sticking with 35psi which appears to sit pretty normal with these tires. Feel free to comment on your experience with this setup.

Don't want to comment on handling since they only have 20 miles on them. They feel fine so far. Mediocre pictures below to give a feel for sidewall appearance on Rays.

I think I'll eventually be going with these sizes too. Not sure about which tires yet though. How do you like them so far?

2 weeks-> I'm thoroughly impressed at the performance these offer when compared to the softer and more expensive OEM bridgestones. The 10mm extra width in the back makes for a slightly unfair comparison, but I'm definitely not breaking these tires loose any more easily than I did with the RE050's. Sidewall seems comparable in stiffness. My opinion is based strictly on daily enthusiastic street driving; no tracking. Will definitely buy again.

The 245/35 and 255/40 size really looks like what the rim was meant for. + sizing is something I would normally never consider but the stock size just isn't right for rim protection (the +size doesn't protect THAT much either) and availability. Infiniti is of course choosing the size that they did to stay close to the base model 17" diameters (speedo accuracy, VDC). I tested my speedo with a Cobra GPS and was showing 79 on the speedo with a GPS speed of 80. This is close to what the online calculators show and is very acceptable.

VDC kicks in no less or more than it used to. There are countless others on driver who run this size with no reported issues.

I'm looking at this plus size as well. But Falken offers a 245/40/19 rather than the 245/35 for the front. Is the 35 sidewall that much shorter? I'm worried about having even less sidewall to protect the rim.

Do you still love the Falkens after having them for a while?

245/35/19 has the same amount of sidewall as the oem 225/40/19 that is on the front, so you are not going to have less sidewall. Do you install 245/40/19's on the front

The stock sidewall height is 3.5" and 245/35 is 3.4". Everybody goes with this size since it's very close to stock diamater and that's what you want for VDC happiness. 245/40 is more than a 2% variance in diameter which is the limit that most would recommend staying within.

If I had to buy another set today, I would buy the FK452's again.

Tire calc (one of many) if you want to play around with sizes to see the effect: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Thumbs up

I've been running FK452's for about 3 months now. I have 245/35 (front) and 255/40 (rear). Couldn't be happier!

Don't wanna start a new thread....But my front tires need replacing my uncle has a set of 245/35 that he is giving me for $75 (With good tread). If I pair these up with my Rear 245/40, tires until they go, will my VDC still be in good shape? Thanks! (BTW, its for a Coupe Lowered on S-Techs)

As far as sizes are concerned, thats fine, just be careful if the tire brand is different which my cause some issues in itself

I allways thought it was weird how the front tire on the G was stretched from teh factory. it looked so funny.
