Adjust Sport suspension for softer ride
Re: Adjust Sport suspension for softer ride
Gster, I see 3 routes to get what you want.
1. Replace the oem sport springs with sedan non sport springs, they are around 10% softer. Sport sport springs are 314lbs front and 342lbs rear. Non sport springs are 280lbs front and 315lbs rear.
2. Replace the entire sport suspension with the non sport suspension. But, I recommend that you go test drive a non sport first before you go that route.
3. Get the Tein CS coilover setup and order slighly softer springs front and rear, add $330 to do so. CS coilovers are a EDFC compatible system, so if you buy the controller and have it installed you can adjust the dampning from inside the car. The standard springs on the CS are 392lbs front and rear, if you were to get different springs you would get 336lbs front and rear.
I have a non sport suspension I do not need, pm me if interested, price would be cheap.

Re: Adjust Sport suspension for softer ride
Here are some important points to think about:
1) Do you want this change to be permanent, or just temporary until your wife's pregnancy is over?
2) Do you have another car that she's more comfortable in?
3) How much are you willing to spend on this project?
4) Going back to #1, are you looking to make the ride sportier in the future?
If money's not a big deal, and you eventually want a sportier ride, then going with the Tein CS and EDFC setup with the softer springs might be a good route, because then you can swap the springs out again later, and wind up with a sportier suspension than the OEM sport suspension.

Re: Adjust Sport suspension for softer ride
I would not label the CS as sporty or sportier, they are a comfort product, just like the HKS LS, but with softer springs then the HKS and without a heavy front rate bias. I want a sportier suspension, but the CS and LS do not meet that definition because of their comfort bias, which is why I mentioned the CS system.

Re: Adjust Sport suspension for softer ride
The Tein CS coilover will be stiffer then your stock suspension and eventhough you change the springs (softer rate), you have to remember that you have also changed the shock to something stiffer.
I recommend you change your wheels to a 16" size, as many have already suggested. Maybe pick up a set of factory 16" (non-sport susp.) wheels from the classifieds here in the forum.
If you alter the suspension, the stiffness will be very similar. The 16" rim will require a 205/65-16 size that will give you a greater cushion as compared to your current wheel/tire package.

Re: Adjust Sport suspension for softer ride
The one know person with the CS coilovers on a G told me he likes them a great deal, likes the ride quality. But, if I wanted performance, to pick something else. Furthermore, Tein tell's us a couple of things about the CS, one the Dampners are 16 way adjustable and that the range of control in those settings, works to effect control from 280lbs springs, (which is softer than sport suspension springs) all the way up to 504lbs springs in the stiffest settings. So, in the softest settings, the CS coilovers are in fact softer than the oem sedan sport suspension and picking 336lbs spring rates only eclipse's the front spring rates by 22lbs.
Changing wheels and tires won't change things in the way he wants them changed.

Re: Adjust Sport suspension for softer ride
Guys, as far as I'm concerned, His willingness to make his wife's ride comfortable PLUS his wife's desire for a comfy ride smells to me like his wife is FORCING him to go ahead and buy some bad-*** coilovers for his car. If my wife even HINTED about my car's ride not being soft enough, I'd tell her that to make her happy I'll go out and buy some of those coilovers with the electronic control that i've seen people tuck away in their glovebox.
...Maybe it's me but if my wife hints at me changing my car I'm all over it like a flash. Take an example:
"Man you bought gas AGAIN today? Your car sure uses a lot of gas"
"I know what you mean honey. I'll go and get an Intake, a new Plenum, and a dual exhaust system. That should help out with mileage a bit. I think I could probably push 24mpg with that setup. I'd love to do my bit to save money, dear."
(Can you tell my leash isn't usually very long?)
