Planning to fix wheel damage

I have the stock 18's and instead of getting new wheels I have decided to spray and sand the damage with this.

https://g35driver.com/forums/attatch...0-IMG_4555.JPG

Is the color match exactly or should I sand and repaint the entire wheel? Maybe I can use my spray skills to blend it. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks - Joey Avino

Joey,
It's not an exact match. Your wheel has several layers of color, black, and a couple of greys and a clear. The can you are referring to will be close, but if you're a good body man, you may be able to blend it well but it won't be exact and you'll probably be able to tell if you look hard.

Re: Planning to fix wheel damage

I did it, I sprayed the area and lightly sprayed the rest of the wheels. They look great, I will post pics soon enough. I will probably test a clear coat, then sand and re-spray the entire wheels with that color.

Joey,

What did you use to mask off the tire and other rim area. I cant seen to get any type of tape to stick. It must be my obsessive cleaning of the rim and tires.

malx,
After seeing the work you did on your headlight cover, I had no doubt your wheel would come out nice. You've definitely got a knack for body work. Great job. That takes patience and precision I've never had.

Malx, glad to hear you had a good color match. Like Catatafish said, if your headlights came out that good, we can imagine how your wheel came out.
I didn't clearcoat mine, keep us posted on how that came out. I suppose it's even a better match!!!!!!

Re: Planning to fix wheel damage

I will take pictures of the wheels today. My body shop guy is going to teach me how to paint this summer so I can give my G35 a nice new color. I was thinking something close to black with some silver in it. Much like the "Bassalt Black" that the Porsche Carrera GT comes in. Its VERY black with a hint of silver. I do not want to steer to far away from black as it may de-value my car. If you guys live in the NJ area I am always happy to do headlights / wheels for you. PM me I have some free days usually. My wheels look insane. I'm actually going to repaint them entirely this summer and clear coat. Oh and about the tape, yeah it's tough. I just masked the tire off as best as I could and any paint that I got on there I used go-gone to remove.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: Planning to fix wheel damage

Just an update. I didn't have time to wash the car myself today so I took it to the hand wash by me. They do an excellent job. Anyway, they put on their wheel cleaner and the wheel paint didn't come off, haha! It's still on. I'm not suprised, just letting everyone know that the dirt came off of the painted wheels and not the paint. I'm looking for my camera right now.

Thanks - Joey Avino
