Help with strut differences
Ok I have a 04 350z suspension at my place ready to go in, but I'm concerned about it being too aggressive. I'd like to increase the steering response, lower the ride by about an inch, and maintain a decent ride. Since I read the G35c and 350z use the same springs then I would assume a G35c suspension in a G35 sedan would be an optimal pick. 1" drop, G35 coupe ride quality. I feel that's quite acceptable.
I've read several different threads and am trying to form a consistent answer here.
The question is:
1) Do the G35c and 350z share the same springs?
a) If so, is there any difference between the 03 and 04 model 350z springs? Any difference between 03 and 04 model G35c springs?
2) Are there any differences between G35 sedan sport struts and G35c struts (I've read that they are the same).
3) Therefore, would putting 350z springs on a g35 sport sedan make it equivalent to having a G35c suspension?
What I'm getting at is just installing the 04 350z springs onto my current shocks. From my gatherings that would be the eqivalent of having a G35C suspension.
Can anyone verify?

Re: Help with strut differences
1. Yes
a) that is possible, If I had the 04 springs in my had I could get the answer. The 04 Z (if coming off a Z built after 11/30/03) would be valved between 03 Z shocks and 03/04 coupe shocks. The 03/04 coupe suspension did not change.
2. They are not the same, the C shocks have a slightly shorter piston rod for duty with shorter springs. They are reported to be valved to mirror the valving in sedan sport shocks, which I believe to be true.
3) I am testing that for you right now. I removed my 350Z suspension last night, well the front's that is, I'll get the rears done tonight. I will report back a very detailed review, your not the only one that has thought about oem Z/coupe springs on oem sport shocks. I'm not interested in the setup, as I know the sport shocks aren't valved tight enough for me, I'm just doing it to test.

Re: Help with strut differences
I can answer that. I just finished putting on my 350z springs with my stock sport sedan shocks last weekend. I am pleased to say that it feels almost identical to the stock setup of the sport suspension. What I have noticed is slightly more roll than the stock setup, but with aftermarket sways, I was able to eliminate that. I am also concerned about bottoming out the shocks. I believe the coupe shocks are made shorter so they don't bottom out the internal bump stops with the shorter springs. I feel that what I have is a good temporary solution to a slightly lower ride without decreased ride quality. I will be getting the Tokico's when they come out. The car handles almost identical to the stock setup, but is lower. I also finally got my 19" Gram Lights, and MAN!! What a difference. This thing handles outstanding with the new tire/wheel combo. I ended up getting the Pilot Sport PS2's.

Re: Help with strut differences
Wow two different answers.
The first reply states the rods are shorter for the shorter spring. The second guy says they're the same.
My bet is they're at least valved the same so the ride would be the same. The sedan rods may be a little longer but I could live with that.

You say there's more roll? That's odd, I'd expect those springs to be stiffer meaning less roll.
On another note, what concerns do you have of bottoming out. Have you driven with 4+ people in your car and had any concerns?

Re: Help with strut differences
No, I have not driven with 4 people yet. When I was test fitting for my wheel offsets, I jacked the right rear wheel up with no spring, and it bottomed out not too far up from the inside of the fender lip. The tire sits about 1/2-3/4" from the fender lip when at regular ride height, and without a stiffer spring or shock, and no more travel in the current shock, it concerns me. I have yet to bottom out, but I have only been driving it for about 4 days now with it lowered. If I encounter any problems, I will let everyone know. Not to mention gsedan35 is going to try it on his car, so he can offer his opinion as well.
