Lower tire profile for 04 coupe (18in/brembo)

Hey guys,

I need your expertise on going for a lower profile for the rear fitment. Would a 245/40/18 tire be better or for worse on the vehicle? My main concern is road noise and longer tread life, may see a bit contradictory but just wanted to get some thoughts....thanks!

I don't think your going to notice any difference from a change that small. If you're looking to lower road noise, that's primarily a function of tread pattern, and I'd expect harder rubber (for longer tread life) to be noisier. You'll have to take some rides in G's with tires rated higher in tread life than the ones you're on now and decide how much noise you can tolerate. I'm currently on Michelin PS2's, 275/40 18's on the rear, 245's in front. Road noise has never been an issue. My 3" Greddy TT exhaust pretty much covers it.

Use this tire calculator and you can see the difference. http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

The 245/40/18 in an inch less in diameter than the 245/45/18. I wouldn't use the 245/40.

If you go to a wider rear tire, then a 40 series tire may be appropriate.
