Tire cleaning

Hi People, awesome forum but I'm not so thrilled with the search feature. Maybe I'm not using it correctly. Either I get zero information or way too much non-related info. Anyway, I got 2 questions: 1. What is the best way to clean my alloys ?and 2. What is best to use to get that high gloss finish on my rubber ?

Re: Tire cleaning

Hey RJP,

I'm pretty new around here too, and haven't had much luck with the search function either.

I don't have an answer for you, but I think you would have a lot more luck if you post this in the detailing forum as opposed to the general forum. Also, you might post over at www.autopia.org which is a forum dedicated to car detailing.

Re: Tire cleaning

Thank you. Did you by chance do your search here in this Board "Wheel, Tires and Suspension", using the key word "cleaning"?

Andrew, We Miss and Love You! Peace!

Re: Tire cleaning

I don't put anything on my tires to shine them up. I just scrub them down with a brush to get the brown goop off and let them be. Regular car wash soap and a sponge for the rims.

Our search is a little funky. Make sure the right forum is selection (might want to try the Detailing forum for tire and rim cleaning suggestions). Also, make sure you change the box that says "exact phrase" to "and" so it can do a keyword search instead of an exact phrase search.

Re: Tire cleaning

I have not used anything but car wash soap and a brush, they still look great after 7 months, I had asked the detailer at the dealership what he used (it was in the showroom) and he said he just cleaned them really good, not shiny, just good looking tires!

Re: Tire cleaning

Soap and water for the rims. Safest for the finish IMO.

I recommend using Zainos - Perfect Tire Gloss
If you like the wet look, two coats is recommended.
The reason I like this product so much is because all the others ive tried, you have to wait till it thoroughly dries or you will get the black splatter on the paint. Ive also noticed that other products tend to collect brake dust and then a grease like build up forms on the tires.

Anyways, read up on this product, its been recommened by others on various forums.

Good luck

Re: Tire cleaning

Simple Green works great to clean both. I used to used to use Eagle 1 Tire cleaner. That stuff works great to clean under your hood also. Just spray water and the Eagle 1 on your engine use a paint brush to loose off the dirt and spray off. Oh Yeah the engine MUST be cool....

Re: Tire cleaning

Zainos = no spin off, tires stay nice and black, no brown brake build up
