Tire Suggestion

Hey guys,

Winter is coming here in chicago and before you know it salt and snow will cover the roads, unfortunately I dont have the g35x so no awd. Anyone have any suggestions on winter tires? I have the factory 18's on them right now. How bad does it slip in the snow? Sandbags?

Additionally, anyone have a good brand and model for summer tires?

Thanks!

Bf goodrich Traction TA's

Just got 4 Bf goodrich Traction TA's for my 06 G35X and they blow away the stock Tires (Which are junk). The preformance on the tires is great but yet there very beefy tread wise. I live in Minneapolis so I know all about the snow and ice. They also are about 4 times better then the stock tires on dry pavement. Picked them up for $165.00 each all said and done. I would highly recomend these tires. Good Luck

I run 18's in the summer but for the winter I have some 16 inch steel wheels
on all for corners with snowtires, and never had an issue, I'm running Dunlop
Graspics and they were bought when the car was new.

I have the BF Traction TA's on my Altima and recently departed Bonneville and really like them. Solid, yet affordable.

There's a few threads about this in the tires and wheels section. Look there for even more info.

I run Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 Ultra High Performance tires in the summer and Dunlop Winter Sport M3 Performance Winter tires in the winter.

This will be my first winter with these tires so I can't attest to their performance, but I made my choices on both sets after a decent amount of research.

I'm going to move this to the tire section because I think you will get more traffic there.

I was in your shoes 1 year ago today. I'm from the nw suburbs and man with last years winter, I was so happy I got snow tires. VDC and ABS help the car depending on if you have decent A/S tread left, but there is no comparison with snow tires. With common sense I had really no problems and didnt get stuck once. Sandbags arent neccessary.

I decided to pick up a used set of OEM 17s on craigslist and purchased a set of 215/55/17s (same overall diameter of the 235/45/18s) Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50s off tirerack. They are great inexpensive snow tires, I put on about 10K miles last year and they still have 80% tread left for this years winter.
