My refinished wheels are a different color..!(pic)

My wheels were scratched by my local tire shop from swapping my winter/summer tires. They offered to have my wheels sent out to get fixed and I agreed. Well they came back and I picked up my car last week. It wasn't until I got it home and washed it that I realized that the rims were finished in a darker color. I thought it may have just been some brake dust when I picked it up. Also, one of the wheels is a little darker than the rest, but they are all darker than stock. I actually like the look on my DG.
What do you think?

Here's a pic that shows the differerence. Although it's hard to tell, the other wheels are most definately darker than stock.

Is the front darker than the back or is it just the lighting in the pic?

Its very hard to tell in a pic. Take some closes ups of each.
Either way, I think you will be the only one to notice at a glance. Doubt if anyone will notice unless you point them out

Nope, it's not the lighting. The front is darker than the back. It was hard to get a good picture that shows the difference. I'm bringing it back in tomorrow.

the fronts are basically what stock wheels look like after a bit of driving.. the repair place probably couldn't mix a batch of paint that was exactly the stock color.. tough luck man..

Re: My refinished wheels are a different color..!(pic)

I kinda of went through the same ordeal with one of my front wheels. I scratched it pretty bad, and I was ready to fork out 125 bucks to get it fixed by the dealership. Through a friend, I found out who was fixing the wheels for the infiniti dealership and I went to him directly. He fixed it for $75 but told me that the paint for the G35 coupe wheels was not available anywhere and he kinda had to match it by trial and error. He did a pretty good job but if you really look at it, mine is just a tiny fraction lighter than the rest. Not as much difference as yours, but different nonetheless. I wonder if anyone in this forum knows where to get the paint or the code for the color of the G35 coupe wheels. Seems like every time I get a flat tire fixed, there are small scratches inside the holes where the lugs go, and I would like to have some paint to touch them up when they happen.

have them refinish the other 3 wheels to match that one...it kinda funny, but i think that the darker finish works better with DG...whenever my rims have brake dust, i look at the rim and think "this would actually look nice if it wasnt brake dust that made it a shade darker"...give that darker shade a nice polish to make it have a deeper glow and i think it'll look nice, as long as u get the other 3 to match...but yea, i would bitch at them, hehehe...at least they offered to fix it for u, i had an incident with my brembos when the dummies at white plains Mavis mounted my snow rims, 4 huge chips on the brembos and i got into a heated argument with the manager cos he said it was from the snow and salt on the road that caused the chips on my car which only had 400 miles on it, wat a b@st@rd...

Re: My refinished wheels are a different color..!(pic)

I messed up my front rim pretty bad as well, and I went nuts trying to locate a place to repair it........
Since the dealer wanted 850+ for a new rim, I decided to go the fix route.....I checked around and no one said they could match the factory color, and I should consider doing both rims on that side of the car so it would not be as noticeable.....

I wasn't about to repaint/repair a perfectly good rim, so when I was getting my oil changed at my dealership, I saw a repair truck in their lot doing as luck would have it,......wheel repairs.

I set up an appointment and dropped my car off, three hours and a loaner car later, plus $125..... my rim was repaired.....

It doesn't match exactly 100% but the picture should give you a pretty good idea of how close it was.....
By the way, I scratched up the lip of the rim for about 12"
see if you can spot the repair.......

I'm going with this method, but have a question. The scratch is small, but was looking for any thoughts. Don't mind the work, but what if I just painted, in which I've read to be a great match.

Thanks

In My Opinion, it looks less scratched, but you can definitely see the color difference in those pics......

Before I repaired my rim, I did touch up the scuffed area with some Testors model paint.....I mixed two colors, Silver Chrome and Anthracite Graphite........I got the color to match very close....to the point the only way you could find it was by the deep scratches under the paint.....

Its hard to just fill in the scratches......it usually just looks like a quick repair......but to some it might be enough to keep them happy.....I know if my rim didn't match.....I would of sprung for a new rim....or got another set of wheels......

Re: My refinished wheels are a different color..!(pic)

I used the Duplicolor and the match is lame. It's too dark, too grey and it's a flat metallic. I didn't attempt to blend anything, rather just masked it off, and the color difference is very apparent. My rash wasn't nearly as extensive as that posters, and if it were that bad I'd have the whole thing repainted. If you're a good body man, and skilled at blending, give it a shot. Keep in mind that this is a spray paint can and you do not have precision control over it like you would an air brush.

My advice is pay for it professionally, or just use the Testors method with a brush.
