Spacer problem?

I just installed a couple of hibcentric spacers *20 mm all around* and i had to replace the oem studs and all that good stuff but now when i take it out and i drive it i start feeling a funny vibration and it gets louder as i drive on it. When i went out to check up on it it seemed that the nuts were loose. It happened to me again yesterday night on the highway and i went to a rest area tightened them by hand and got in the car and drove off 15 mins later they were all loose. anyone know wats going on? could it be the spacers? i put on brand new ray lugs.. i don't know the exact way to bolt those on...but this thing is starting to get on my nerve..

thanks

Check your wheels and make sure that you don't still have the hubcentric spacers on them also.

What I mean, is you probably have two sets of spacers on and that is what is causing your wheels not to sit flush. Have someone drive your car and follow them and I can bet that your wheels are "wobbling" because they aren't on all the way.

Same thing happened to me. Bought a set of Workmeisters to replace my RH's. Lugs kept coming undone after driving for a few miles, strange noise and the steering wheel vibrated just like you described.

I took the wheels off and sure enough, the hubcentric spacer was fused onto the old wheels. Reinstalled them and haven't had a problem since.

the spacer he is talking bout is a small plastic one that most wheels come w/ and it get stuck to the hub and you can see it cause of brake pad dust but check for that

Maybe not all of the new studs you installed are pulled all the way in? Take off the wheels and check them out.

If it's H&R or Eibach, they should be hubcentric.

You may want to use some "removeable" type of threadlocker on the studs that hold the spacers on. Make sure the studs you replaced are seated all the way. Then torque them to the recomened ft/lbs and then torque the wheels also.

this is true, but when the machine these parts, sometimes they leave this small lip on the spacer that causes the spacer to not seat perfectly. and that causes the wooble and then the lugs undo themself.

Make sure your hubcentric rings are sitting flush if they're the removable types.

I had a set of Project Kics spacers with hubcentric rings when I had the OEM 19s. Was driving one day and noticed vibrations at slow speeds, and the car would actually skip when I turn left at parking lot speeds. Took it to a shop for an alignment, and the shop people noticed I only had 2 of the 5 lug nuts on my front passenger wheel. Apparently the last person that worked on my car didn't put the hubcentric ring on correctly, it wasn't sitting flush in the spacer and the little gap caused the vibration that grew bigger over time, and shook the 3 lug nuts lose. If I had driven another 5 miles on the freeway that day my wheel would definitely have fallen off.

are your new nuts deep enough for the extended lugs?

Maybe you might need some open ended lugnuts for the longer studs.
