Good news about the SPC toe cams

there has been some discussion about the SPC toe cams lately, and i just installed and aligned with a set.

i already had the kinetix camber arms, so i just ordered the toe cam bolts from iapdirect.com for 45 bucks shipped.

my car is lowered 1.25" in the front, and 1" in the rear, and we were able to get the camber and toe within spec. in fact, the rear camber is at 1.3 degrees, when it was at 2.5 degrees before.

they are easy to install, but make sure when you are elongating the slots, that you use a metal cutting bit with a dremel, and not a file or stone bit. it is much easier.

good luck

Re: Good news about the SPC toe cams

thanks for the update. how hard was it to dremel the slots?

BTW, I'm getting info on a possible group buy for the arm and cams. Anyone interested else interested?

Re: Good news about the SPC toe cams

wait I thought the toe cam bolts didn't require milling the spring pocket like the person in my350z.com. Did you drill yourself or the alignment guy did it? Think you can show us pics on how you did it? Thanks

Any opinions on if I should go with Kinetix camber arms vs. SPC?

I don't think you can go wrong either way. The kinetix is tried and true. The SPC camber arms are also made by a very well respected company that has been building camber rods, adjustable a-arms for a long time.

I know kinetix uses polyurethane bushing but I don't know what the SPC uses.

Re: Good news about the SPC toe cams

SPC uses rubber almost identical to the factory arms, and they use MIG welds instead of TIG welds like KInetix.

Re: Good news about the SPC toe cams

There really isn't that much of a difference, if any, between a mig and a tig weld. One uses a filler metal while the other uses flux core (solid wire) as the weld material. According to one of my engineers, there is no appreciable difference in strength.

Rubber v. Poly: the poly should be stronger and stiffer than the stock rubber. So, it would probably deflect/deform less under load. However, that may introduce a little harshness and/or additional sound. For the hardcore autoxer, the kinetix might be the way to go whereas, the SPC might be better for a daily driver.

Re: Good news about the SPC toe cams

i will confirm the strength about the mig and tig welds, but i would imagine (hope) that they are using a gas mig welder and not a flux core. tig welds look much better, but it will be under your car.

for where the camber arms are, and how they react, you will probably not notice any more harshness from a poly, or even a delrin bushing. one thing to consider is that if you plan on running some big wheels, or a substantial drop (or both), the stock-type bushings will allow small amounts of deflection which could cause some fender scraping. the poly bushings will hold the suspension to its alignment better.

either set should work well, but i went kinetix cambers, and the SPC toe cams.

one other thing to consider is that SPC sells the toe cams as camber cams as well (we have cams in both locations from the factory). they are the same part number. if you buy 2 pairs of cams, you can use 2 for camber, and 2 for toe. you wont get as much adjustment as the camber arms, but it will be more than stock, and about 90 bucks total.

...and just to confirm, the stock slots have to be elongated slightly (about 1/8"). the new cams have more of an offset, so when you put them into the stock slots they wont rotate all the way around. after you elongate the slot, you can rotate the cam 360 degrees, and get your full adjustment.

as far as the money you will save...well...send it to me.

hope this helps someone.

Chad

Re: Good news about the SPC toe cams

Thanks for the info chad. Did you elongate the stock slots or did the shop do it for you? This is the only part that worries me.

Also, I just talked with vendor about the group buy and he stated that if we could get 10 people, they would do the arms and cams at $205 shipped. It doesn't seem like there is enough interest though. If you are interested, give a shout.

Re: Good news about the SPC toe cams

I just ordered the Kinetix arms. It was a tough decision, but I want the Poly vs. rubber. I don't think I will need the toe cams because my drop is mild, but if I do they are only $45.

Re: Good news about the SPC toe cams

i did all of the work myself...i am the shop.

it was cake with a dremel, and the proper bit. i tried it with other tools, and it was a pain. half way through i ran to home depot, and picked up the right bit.
