rims stolen!!!

I am the bearer of bad news guys. My co-worker has a coupe in NJ and he told us the other day that he woke up and found his car on blocks. The dealer told him 4k for rims and tires!! How is that possible? I told him to make sure they're wearing a condom if he's going to let them [censored] him like that. Where are some sites that sell oem replicas cheap? I remember somebody posted www.1000rims.com but I checked and they said they don't have them. They used to because I remember seeing them on there. Any other places?

Re: rims stolen!!!

It is a 40K car - did he expect cheap rims and tires?

I'm really sorry to hear about your buddy, this suck big time!

However having said that, I think if my wheels ever get stolen I wouldn't be that mad....
I'd get a nice check from the insurance company and buy myself some nice 19" iForged Flux.... ho well...

Re: rims stolen!!!

Sounds about right for OEM rims and tires.......... Sorry to hear of his bad experience, but insurance will get him back on the road.
Sounds like it's time for good wheel locks and a car alarm.

Hmmm... starting to contemplate taking my wheel locks off and parking my car in Newark overnight.

Re: rims stolen!!!

He lives in NJ, the worse place for insurance. All the big insurance companies dropped out of NJ so he had to pay out the *** for a small company to insure him. He doesn't want to go through insurance because they will raise his premium. I found G35 wheels on this site for $400 a pop. He has the 18's. There is no point spending that much money for stock rims.

Re: rims stolen!!!

You can find a full set of 18" coupe rims/tires on eBay for $1500. That's not even worth reporting to the insurance company because they'll--ahem--get it back over time.

Re: rims stolen!!!

i agree, he can always go through his insurance. if not, he can always get the 17's or 18's on ebay for about $1000 and $1400 respectively. many times, that's with the stock tires too : )

Re: rims stolen!!!

It's not odd. That is the MSRP for the rims and tires.

Each front rim is $794.50
Each rear rim is $385.84 <-- thinks its a typo in their parts list

Each tire is $270 about. The rest of the cost is balance and mounting your tires and dealership markup.

Re: rims stolen!!!

well, with the wheel/tire package for the extra $900, you're paying for the upgrade for the wheels. obviously, you get credit for the 17's and just pay the differnce in price to get the 18's and slip diff.

Re: rims stolen!!!

It wont raise his insurance more than the cost of these rims. Insurance rates are based on:
1) type of car
2) driver age and drivers record
3) credit (yes, they check)
4) claim history
5) location

1 not at fault claim will not greatly affect your rates.

Very true. I live in NJ. I have all-state. i am under 25. I work in Newark. Thank god for a clean license. I am allowed 1 "not at fault" claim every three years without it affecting my rates.

That being said, don't blindly file a claim without talking to your insurance agent. That not at fault claim does get put on your record, so when the time comes for them to start dropping people and it's between you and a clean record person...
