Better tires in the front or rear
Re: Better tires in the front or rear
For an inexperienced driver, understeer is safer than oversteer. Having good tires in front and bad tires in the back can lead to oversteer and fishtails and spin-outs. Actually, it's good for experienced drivers too, especially if you take it to the extreme. If you have two bald tires in back and two snow tires in front and run around in the northeast during the winter, the laws of physics will prove that no amount of experience can substitute for a complete lack of traction. In fact, some tire shops will refuse to put two new tires on the front axle, and will only put two new tires on the rear axle.
Note: your front tires are responsible for steering and a majority of breaking. The best thing is 4 good, matched tires.
