Wheel Spacer Install?

Wheel Spacer Install?
Has anyone installed wheel spacers with longer lugs BY THEMSELVES? I am trying to get a feel to see if I will need a shop to press in the new studs. I purchased the H&R 5mm spacers for the REAR of my car. I am assuming I will just have to take off the caliper and the disc and then I can access them with a hammer. Then I am not quite sure how hard it will be to put in the new studs. If this is incorrect, can someone please advise me on how they did it? Thanks.

Re: Wheel Spacer Install?
When you saw it done at the shop, what did they do to remove them? That is part of my question as well.

You don't have to install the 5mm longer H&R studs when you install their +5mm spacer. According to the wheel shop that installed mine, as long as you have at least 4 to 4.5 complete turns on the lug nuts...here is the link:

Re: Wheel Spacer Install?
You'll definitely want longer studs if you're adding a spacer. I purchased the Nismo 50mm studs from Performance Nissan and they worked just fine.
Getting them out took a long time--but it wasn't technically challenging. If you have the time there's no sense paying someone else to do it.
The "hardest" part is figuring out that you need to turn the hub a bit to be able to remove each of the existing bolts. Since the emergency brake mechanism is behind the hub, there are only certain spots where there is enough room to get the old bolt out and the new one in. I found that it was easiest to turn the hub if I set the rotor on and turned the rotor. Hope that makes sense.
Also, to remove each bolt, I sprayed it with WD40, let it sit for a few minutes and then screwed an old lug nut onto the bolt and hit the lug nut with a hammer.

Re: Wheel Spacer Install?
I've done this several times...
1) Remove wheel and brake calipers (If you're careful, you may not have to remove the brake pads)
2) Pull the rotor towards you (may have to wiggle a bit)
3) You will now see your hub with the studs on it. Look behind it for a clearance spot - this is where you will rotate each stud to to hammer it out. For the front it is at about 10 or 11 o clock. I've only done it once on my rears so I can't remember.
Installing new ones...
1) Pull the stud through from the back of the hub and pull it in as much as possible.
2) Find about a half inch metal spacer or 3 or 4 thick washers and put it around the stud.
3) Put a lugnut through and tighten. I used an air gun when doing this to make sure it was tight. It didn't have a torque setting or anything...a torque wrench will do also. When doing this, I recommend using a lugnut you wanna toss out because as you tighten, you'll wear out the "acorn" part of it.
That's it. Put evertything back the way you took it apart.

Re: Wheel Spacer Install?
My first time, it took me about 45 minutes to figure everything out on one side. Once I did one side, it only took me about 20 minutes for the other side (not including time to jack up car and take off wheels)

Re: Wheel Spacer Install?
Hey guys. Just wanted to let you all know that it is very easy to change out your studs. I didn't want to hammer them out because I just didn't feel that would be good for the bearings, so I used a standard puller from Sears. It worked wonders, and I didn't have to lube them with WD40 or anything. Each one came out in seconds, literally. I hightly recommend doing it this way, vs. hammering them out.

Re: Wheel Spacer Install?
yes. first.. i got them installed at a local shop. great tools and a new 2 stage hydraulic lift.. everything was well. anyhow, he installed the spacer and stud kit for me... but one of the studs went loose and started to grind the vents of the front right inner front brake rotor. it sounded like shrek pounding on donkey in the trunk...
in short, yes.. i used a rubber mallet to pop them off. however, the H&R studs were just thick enough to fit without security.. they would slip right off. so i bought some JB cold weld and stuck them on... no problems just yet.
for the brembo kit, there are two chromoly steel bolts that hold the floating caliper.. that was a biznatch snap bangs to pluck out of.. i suggest a nice long torque wrench to do the work. space was also minimal.. so i had a very sore shoulder afterwards. slide the caliper off and try to hang the apparatus with a coat hanger or cautiously off the brake line, even though not recommended. the rotors are floating, so you just pull them right off. JB cold weld.. remember! it works well.
good luck on your endeavors.
