wow read through this whole thread and not one person metioned that there are multiple different kind of spacers, there are:

1. "slip on spacer" that are not hub centric that you can by at pepboys/autozone which are what the old guy probably had in mind since the newer type spacers have only been around 10 years or so...i highly do not recommend these they put added stress on studs and if not torqued properly can cause major problems. these come in 3mm 5mm 10mm ect.. i wouldnt recomend using anything bigger then a 5mm without extended studs but even with extended studs just stay away from this type of spacer if you can. these are for idiots!...lmao


2. "bolt on spacers" which actually bolts on like a rim and has its own studs that you bolt your wheels to and are hhub centric, which i highly recommend and can be used as a wheel with low offset....also of course if not installed correctly can cause problems just like if you installed your rims wrong would cause problems....it common sense with these. these come in 10mm 15mm 20mm 25mm ect...i use these along with 1000's of people and only problems really occur is when not installed properly and if they do not fit your hub snug.

3 "extended stud spacers" which you actually have to push out your old studs..install the extended studs then slip on spacer...these work fine but i can see stress on studs if not a good brand name...make sure extended studs are stronger then oem and eveything fits around hub and studs snug...cheaper versions can be faulty. these usually come in 5mm 10mm 15mm



go with bolt on spacers...its pretty much just extending your rims offsets and once you get into the negative offsets of course its going to put more stress on hub.

oh and 25mm "bolt on spacers" will clear your oem studs otherwise if you go with smaller then 25mm in this type make sure theres openings/clearance where wheels sits on hub in between each bolt opening because your studs are going to stick out past the spacer and hit the rim!
