look what damaged my wheel

Well I was driving to work this morning and all of a sudden I see this thing sticking out of the road, I tried to miss it, but I was too late. Both drivers side tires and the front rim are trashed. Luckily there was a place in town to get a used stock 18 (I can't afford to buy new rims right now). Would you consider this a problem that the county should rectify (picture attached). What is pictured is a cover for a water meter that just happens to be put in upside down (note the big chunk missing from where it hit my rim).

they MIGHT cover the damages. but they might also say that anybody could have done that, not a fault of the city workers...

try it and let us know what happens!

depends on where you live. where i live, if it is a reported problem, and the township has failed to repair it, then the township is responsible for any damages to any vehicle after the township was notified. your insurance may also cover it. but that would probably cost you more than paying it yourself in the long run.

Re: look what damaged my wheel

you need to let them know ASAP.... Possibly even get a property damage report from your local police department....

Now, if there are POSTED construction signs on the roadway, you will more than likely be S.O.L...but, if there is nothing around and that happened, you will more than likely be totally 100% reimbursed...

Also, get an estimate from the dealer on a wheel replacement, oh, and don't forget to claim the Z-rated tire that was damaged too!

I know they would here, from personal experience! I hope the people in charge where you are will take care of it! That looks like it had been marked for some work, so they should cover it!

Hey you better act on this. Here in L.A. california, that happens alot. You gotta call the city and let them know that this happend. Call them and they will pay you back. The reason they do that is because they dont want to get sued.

Keep us posted on what happens. Good luck.

Re: look what damaged my wheel

This is covered under the comprehensive portion of your insurance policy. If the damge is well over your deductible, it may be worth it.

Re: look what damaged my wheel

Well, the county isn't going to do anything for me, but they are going to remove and replace the entire water junction box (at least they said that was what they are going to do, I will be watching closely). I could make use of insurance, but at this point I am choosing not to, since it is not too much above my deductible I would rather save dealing with them for much more expensive problems. As far as fixing the car it has been a major pain because for some reason the rear tires are on backorder everywhere, I have come to learn that it is not actually the tires but the federally mandated stickers that go on them that are backordered. Anyway the dealer said they were able to work with Michelin and get one out of South Carolina, so hopefully I will have the car back Monday or Tuesday.

Do you have one of those Action Team problem resolution TV stations in your area? I would call and see if they could put a story together about the incident, damages, and refusal to pay.

Ross, I have a rear Michelin Pilot Sport (the stock 245/40/18) that I took off my driver's side with about 900 miles on it (pretty much brand new). Are you looking to replace both rears or just the damaged one (how's the wear on your other side)?

PM me if you're interested.

Re: look what damaged my wheel

Metasystem,

Thanks for the offer, but they were already able to get one for me.

However, it gets worse. The service guy calls me Thursday to have me come look at the used rim and make sure I like it. So I carry the used rim around back to look at it next to the car. I walk up to my car and realize that someone has run in to it while it has been sitting in the dealer's back lot this week. The front bumper is trashed, the drivers side light is broken, the hood is bent and so is the driver's side quarterpanel. So I have the service guy come out and he says, "that was definitely not there when you brought it in so I'm going to have to take care of it". That is all well and good, but now my car that has less than 1800 miles on it has been wrecked and I feel that they owe me a new car.

Thoughts?
