Quick tire question

Hey guys, I'm looking into getting a G coupe in the future.

I've been wondering about the W rated tires that come with the 18 inch wheel package. Are those tires all season? I'd really hate to spend money on winter tires, but I've heard that the coupe isn't the best car in winter.

Thanks

Re: Quick tire question

The tires that come with the 6mt or the 18" wheel package come with Michelin Pilot summer tires AFAIK. If you plan on using the g in the snow, I would strongly suggest getting a dedicated set of winter tires. I had the all-seasons on my sedan and with any amount of snow, I was stuck. I couldn't even get out of my driveway that is almost flat (no more than a 5% grade).

Re: Quick tire question

Understand that Summer tires are for use in Summer temperatures only. The compounds get really hard and traction diminshes with temperature ---- by 40- 50F they are significantly impaired!

Summer tires are optimized for a 150-180F tread temperature.

All Season just use more void to tread ratio and a compound that functions [somewhat better] in cold conditions but wears excessily when hot [and vulcanizes to a harder compound after a season hot summer use].

There is no free lunch with tires if as new performance is expected.

Re: Quick tire question

You can not use the Michelin Pilots on any amount of snow. PERIOD. If you need to drive this car in the snow be ready to buy snow tires or dont buy the car.

Re: Quick tire question

The tires suck in water too over all they are a smooth ride and great for everyday driving but no performance aspect in my opinion.
( on that note im looking for some nice driving tires and still higher performance for the canyons) i was looking at the drag radials or gforces but im not sure. and i know most done come in the biiger wheels sizes any sugestions

Re: Quick tire question

What about the tires that come with the 17 inch rims. I assume those would be all season.

But I really don't like the style of the 17 inch rims. Maybe the 05 models will get new wheel styles.

Re: Quick tire question

On my 6mt, I got the all seasons from the dealer. I have an invoice to prove it. Yes, this includes the 18' rims for the 6mt. My father and I argued over the tires infront of the salesperson for roughly about 5 minutes and he went to talk to the manager about it. I don't know what type I am going to get but I will find out when I pick the car up. I'll post an update soon...

the 18" pilots arent that bad in the snow when the vdc is left on. i drove up to 4" of snow with moderate difficulty.

Re: Quick tire question

Aren't that bad is relative compared to hot dry friction, they are down about 40% at 32F........ If they provide 0.95 mu hot dry expect 0.8-0.75 mu warm wet and 0.65-0.60 mu at 32F on dry cold asphalt.

Re: Quick tire question

The Pilots suck in snow...PERIOD!!
I messed up my front rim in Dec. when I slid into a curb going less than 20mph.
If you plan to or need to do any snow driving, invest in 17' rims and a good set of 4 snows....Blizzaks or Perelli Snow Sports will do the trick...

This Year I will definitely purchase a set before they sell out!
