Rear tire width - 295s possible?

Hey, i'm pretty much a lamen in car talk.

I got an 03 Coupe and I want to put 20X8.5s in the front and 20X10s in the back. I'm buying the wheels and tires separately, so how wide can I go on the rear wheel tires

I want to go with the Toyo Proxes 4 295/30/20, but would I be able to just throw those on the wheels and into my car and know they'll fit without doing any further modifications?

The place I'm buying the rims from say they do 295s all the time on g35 coupes with no problems, but i want a 2nd opinion.

Also, I saw some posts suggesting that 245/35/20s on the front would cause problems, rubbing etc. Which really makes me nervous about the toyo proxes 4 i was going to put on the front. Should I find some 245/30/20 instead?

Thanks all.

PS. I'm not a racer, in it just for the looks. I'm shallow that way. Be honest and let me know how wide I can go

1. 295/30/20 is too wide for a 10" wheel, you should at least have a 10.5" wheel, and preferably an 11" wheel

2. You should be running 255/30/20 in the front to better match the 295 rear. Running only a 245 in the front will cause understeering issues.

The wheel is actually more inportant to me than the tire so if I have a 20X10 should i go with a 275 in the rear and stay at 245 in the front?

That being said, will a 295 with a 10/5 or 11 " wheel actually fit in my coupe?

With the right offset, a 295 on a 10.5/11 will fit the coupe easily, been done many times. I would go 275/30/20 or 285/30/20 on the 20x10 rear, with a 245/30/20 front or 255/30/20 front

I've heard some stuff about 245/35 rubbing in the front. I'm pretty sure a 245/30 wouldn't rub but like you said would cause understeering issues. You suggsted a 255/30. Wouldn't that cause rubbing issues in the front?

245/35/20 is too tall. Period. It should not be run in the front of a coupe in any circumstances. Rubbing is dependent on offsets, do you know your offsets?

I actually have no idea what my offests are. If you could tell me how to find out, that would be much appreciated. I dont know if they are just standard. I have a 2003 g35 coupe if that helps. if not, please let me know how to figure that out

Offsets refer to the wheel. The lower the offset the more the wheel will "poke out" which will cause rubbing. The higher the offset the less flush the wheel will be with the fender.
1 question though, is your coupe equipped with Brembo brakes? If so you do not want anything with more than a +25 offset otherwise it wont clear the caliper.

Ok i found the offset. It's 35mm on both the 20X8.5 (front) and 20X10 (rear). So do you think they'll rub?

Those offsets are very weak...they will make your wheels tucked way under your car. OEM 18x8" wide wheels have a +30 offset. Most coupe guys want high teens for offsets.
The wheels you listed will stick out 1mm farther than stock in the front and 20mm(0.8") wider than stock in the rear. Rubbing shouldn't be a problem at all. I would look into better offsets like +15-20 in the rear and +10-15 front those would still be conservative.
