Offset confusion

Aite im really getting confused on offsets and everything. So like i don't how offsets work anymore. Since like example OEM 18's have +30 offset and ppl are adding spacers, maybe like 25mm spacers and they say it brings it back down to +5 which will bring is close to flush with the fenders right? And than now if you purchase some aftermarket rims like 19x11 with an offset of +45. Thats the part i don't get and is that mean you will need 40mm spacer? haha I guess im asking if what does offsets actually mean. i read this but this kind of makes it clear but confusing also http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/...jsp?techid=101.

Im actually eyeing some t1s 19x9.5 (says clears brembos), 19x11 offset im guessing +45 rims. Would these fit fine or would rim and tires be sticking out alot?

19x11 +45 wont be flush at all, it'll be tucked in and most likely rub on the suspension/inner fender well. Unless you want to run a really wide tire like a 305, then you'd be best off with an offset in the low 20's or high teens for an 11" wide wheel with a 285 tire. The front 9.5 should be in the mid to low teens with a 245 tire.

see thats what i dont get now. when they say offset of +45 i thought it pushes the wheel farther out of the wheel well which i guess not now. and if the offset is say +25mm is that mean if i get say 20mm spcaers it will be close to flush? But some ppl say just buy rims that actually fit what you want and get the right offsets instead of buying spacers...

the higher the number, the further the wheel gets pushed in towards the center of the car. The lower the number, further the wheel gets pushed out to or past the fender. You also have to take into account the width between the wheels as well as the offest when comparing 2 different wheels.

if the original offset is +25mm and you add a 20mm spacer, your effective offset will be +5

a +5 offset on 9.5-11" wheel on a G is considered quite aggressive and you would need to run stretched tires and a bit of camber for the setup to fit without rubbing.

to put it simply, offset is how far from center the wheel is mounted, measured at the hub/rotor interface. A zero offset means that the wheel is mounted exactly in the middle of the width of the wheel, ie 4" from each edge for an 8" wheel. This also means the middle of an 11" wheel, so 5.5" from each edge. So a 8"+0 will stick out 4" past the rotor, while a 11"+0 will stick out 5.5", or 1.5" more. If the 8"+0 is already flush, then you need to offset the wheel ~1.5" inwards so the outer position stays the same, which would be ~11"+38

if you're lowered on S-tech's, then i'd get 30mm spacers all around and roll the rear fenders. Or 25mm spacers at the very least.

30mm spacers all the way around you dont think that will be too aggressive or look like a crab i was thinkin 25mm at the most

there's been plenty of people to do 25mm spacers and most wish they made a 30mm. 30mm spacers are hard to come by, but more and more are being made.

Ok guys, I'm even more confused when it comes to offsets than the OP. I have no idea where to begin on an offest. I do know that I will most likely be running 8.5s up front and 10s in the rear, isn't this pretty much what people are running on 07 sedans? I know what size lip I want, but don't know how to convert that into terms of an offset. Like I would like an inch or inch and a half lip up front and 2.5 - 3.5 inch lip in the back.

Any idea of how to come up with the offset with the things that I know I want or will have. Math would be appreciated to for future reference in case I get different size widths or something.
