19 inch wheels on 2005 6MT

I'm deciding between waiting for the 2005 or ordering the 2004 now (supposedly early July is the last chance to order one with custom options). One thing I can't say I'm crazy about is the 19 inch wheels - more rotating mass, more opportunity for damage, more expensive tires, although better looks?

I'm leaning towards buying the 2005 (295 HP!) and then swapping with someone for their 18 inch wheels. I really like the 18's. I'm guessing there'll be a pretty good market for people wanting to swap. Maybe they'd even be willing to pay a little for the pricier wheels/tires with the swap. What do you all think?

I'd swap you if the 19"s were in the 18/19 pound realm. Otherwise I'll go Volk or Nismo.

I don't think you'll want the 2005 19 inch wheels then. I think the 18 inch wheels now already weigh about 24.5 lbs or something. Can't imagine what the 19's will weigh. Would any of you pay for an "upgrade" to the 19 inch wheels?

you never know about weight...on e46 m3's the 19's and 18's actually weigh basically the same because one is forged and one is cast i believe. We'll see what happens, i'm sure the 19's will look pretty awesome.

from infiniti's press release on 2005 model changes, looks like only the "sport" version of the manual coupe gets the 19" wheels (along with the sport version of the auto). non-sport manual has 18" wheels standard and non-sport auto has 17" wheels (tire upgrade option is still available for autos which gives it 18" wheels).

This is from the webpage...

"The G35 coupe will be offered in three models for 2005, Coupe, Coupe Sport A/T and Coupe Sport 6MT. Both Sport models include a new sport-tuned suspension, Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (V-LSD), 19-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels and drilled aluminum pedals."

I'm pretty sure this means there is only one version of the coupe 6MT and it is "Coupe Sport".

Please dont use tricky titles to get people to read your threads, you haven't even seen the new 19 inch wheels and your saying you want to trade them for the 18s? This thread is a joke...

the 05 19" are forged, the 03/04 18" are cast iron. they shouldn't weigh more & may even weigh less (forged = stronger & lighter than cast iron).

it's not cast iron, it's cast aluminum.

cast iron is for frying pans.

Re: 19 inch wheels on 2005 6MT

Geez, aren't we optimistic about the 2005~

I, for one, am dying to see the new 2005 coupe and particularly the sedan. I think the interior is an improvement over the current one, and 19" forged rims, 295 just makes the car better both in styling and performance. I suppose we can all wish for stuff like interior mood light and projector xenon, but I think Infiniti did a good job updating the design. If the 2005 G35 sedan actually looks decent, who knows~ I might be interested in getting a sibling for my coupe.

Re: 19 inch wheels on 2005 6MT

What i've been reading is that the 295 hp and 19" rims are an option that comes together, which will definitly raise the price of the car you're going to buy in 05', if what i hear is true. To gain 15 more hp? I believe that the internals of the engine will be the same, because 15 hp can be gained by modifiying parts like intake/throttle/header/exhaust. And it would cost less for the company to change those parts instead of the engine. All speculation, but remember the integra type R?Most of the HP gain over the GSR engine was from modifying those parts, plus I think a better transmission and different gear ratios. Find out how much the 05 with the 295 hp optoin is and decide if its worth it to you, if not, get a 04 with the 18's and mod your car to get 15 more hp.
