necessary to cut bumpstops for tein stech?
necessary to cut bumpstops for tein stech?
in the paper that came with my springs it says for the front it's necessary to cut 1/2" off the factory bumpstop, was wondering if this is necessary? what exactly is this for can someone explain? just want to get everything correct and not mess up anything here...
Re: necessary to cut bumpstops for tein stech?
Your bump stops are built into the upper shock mounts. If you look inside the shock mount you can see the bump stops located at the top. I just checked out a set I have off the car and I would not be able to cut off any amount of the bump stops if I wanted to. If anyone has managed to do so, I'd like to know how. But then again the mounts I just looked at are sedan mounts and I'm certain that coupe mounts differ. In this pic, the mount on the left is from a sedan and the one on the right is from a Z (positive that the coupe mounts are the same as the Z mount).

Given that the Tein springs for the G35 are not much stiffer in the front and a lot softer in the rear, my recommendation is to not cut them, even if their was a easy way to cut them. It is common practice for the spring makes to recommend to cut them, here in this case again, I would not do it.
Which Tein's did you go with, S-tech's or H-tech's?

I did not cut them on my installation and has had no problems at all with the suspension. No weird noises, no adverse effects, nada.

Re: necessary to cut bumpstops for tein stech?
Bump stops are the suspension's last line of defence as your suspension travel ends or in other words, if you should bottom out, it's the bump stops that have the last say in absorbing things. And bottoming out a shock too hard, is one of the number one reason's for shock failure on a lowered suspension.
As far as right height goes and bump stops, even if you were to remove the bump stops, the car's ride height would be uneffected.
