I have looked around at a variety of threads but can't find a specific bit of advice I'm looking for.

I need to replace tires on my stock G35 6 speed, which is currently using Goodyear 235/45 18 tires, one of which has a nail going into and out of the sidewall but is not losing air.

I'm looking to find a reasonably priced replacement and care mostly that it handles water and has good wear properties, as I don't drive particularly hard or at high performance levels. Although I live in Vermont I do put the car away for the winter and don't need snow performance.

Someone must have figured this out for themselves already. Care to share the advice?

tirerack.com

General Exclaim UHP

Kumho Ecsta SPT

Kumho Ecsta ASX

Yokohama AVID W4S

all of these are less than $200 per tire, if that's what youre looking for in terms of price. performance is subjective.

not many choices with our 235/45/18 size unfortunatly. But tirerack should have some decent tires for under $200 each.

I agree with all of these and would add the Yokohama S Drive. Had them on my Maxima and liked them a lot. The Generals look sick, but I don't have any personal experience with them. Anyone care to chime in on the Generals and give your impressions if you have used them?

Goodyear GT All season They have a UTOG rating of 400 so they wear good. They are GREAT in the rain. They handle VERY well, they are not pilot sport gt's but they do have lots O' grip. I like mine a lot. I got a set of 4 at Discount Tire mounted, balanced, and road hazard for less than $900. Yours should be less as the size is smaller (mine were 245 40 19)

Discount has them in a 245 45 18 (I ran this size when I had 18's and loveed them, they were Goodyear RSA's.) for $165 each plus mounting.

I had the AVID W4S on my Previous Mustang GT. Good tire, good in the rain, but not great when it comes to performance traction. I used to slide around all the time and launching sucked.

I'd put them on my AWD G with no prob, but i wouldn't put them on a RWD sport(y) vehicle.

The above Goodyears are a damn nice tire too

I can't stand Kumho's, i've run them before

I loved my Pirelli P7000's but i beleive they have been discontinued. Best damn performance tire in the rain i've ever driven on.

I had bridgestone potenza's that wore out in 18K miles!

Yokohama 520's are great all season tires.

I just picked up a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-2's from tirerack.com for 98 each plus shipping. Tirerack has them in 245-45/18 only. My local Discount Tire mounted and balanced them for another 110 (including new valve stems and lifetime balance and rotations). Total cost was 555. They replaced a set of General Exclaim UHP's. I actually like the Goodyear's better. They seem just as sticky if not more, and they don't track the road grooves like the General's did, and they are pretty quiet.

+1... very comfortable commuter tire... great treadwear... and good pricing... handles OK if youre not real aggressive with them.

Make sure you check the daye codes on the tires. Tirerack likes to have their bargain sales when they have inventory that has been sitting. I bought a set of tires for $90 each marked down from $220 and they ended up having date codes stating they were 5 years old.

The date code says 1209 (the 12th week of 2009).
