New rear tires

Hey guys,

I know that there are a lot of tire threads out there, but i couldnt really find the answers i was looking for w/o spending hours in search. I am stuck between 2 tires, the Kumho Ecsta ASX and the General Exclaim UHP. I am wondering if any of you guys have ran these, and want to know how they perform in wet and dry weather, noise, and how long they last.

Just check Tire Rack, and what they have to say:

Kumo Ecsta ASX: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=Ecsta+ASX.

General Exclaim UHP: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....el=Exclaim+UHP.

Loved the UHP, if they came in the sizes i needed, i'd go for it. Although, i'm just as happy with the FK452.

Just be aware that your OE tire is in the category of Max Performance Summer, and the Generals are Ultra High Performance Summer. The Kumhos are all-season tires, so they can't be in the same ballpark as the other two. I live in the South, drive an 07S, and I wouldn't put all season tires on it. I chose the Sumitomo HTR ZIII, but I'm sure the Generals will be fine. I just ordered a set of their Grabber HTS for the wife's Element.

FYI...............I am returning the 2 General Exclaim UHPs to tirerack after 150 miles. I read 3 reviews on tirerack with regards to this tire setting off the VDC. I disregarded those reviews, thinking these guys might be a little particular. Well guess what? Same deal for me. The VDC in our cars does not like this tire. On the slightest ongoing ramp the VDC kicks in. I purchased the correct size tires for my car as well. I only changed the rears. My front tires have more than 50% tread, so there should be no issues there. Some said to give them time to break in, but I am not taking any chances as my 30 day return period is running out. I heard alot of positive things about this tire, but I was quite disappointed.

Actually there is nothing wrong with the tire...I have the Generals and they are great. I ran into your issue with the VDC coming on, when I had only replaced the rears also..if you do a search you will see that have brand new tires and worn tires in the front it will throw off the car....i ended up ordering 2 new fronts the next week and it solved the VDC problem....the tires are fine!

Do a search!!

IMHO, buy an used set of OEMs and swap out all 4 with the same brand.

I would have gone that route but I wanted to stay with asymetrical tires up front to keep the road noise to a minimum. Once the front feathering appears around 6-8,000 miles, it was a pain to constantly break, dismount, remount, and swap the tires from side to side. The asymetrical tires I have now up front are quiet as a church mouse and by swapping them every 6,000 miles, there is no inside cupping. I'm tired of the front tire issues.

With the General, you get what you pay for. Noisy, mediocre grip, and soft sidewalls. Kumho over those for sure.

I am picking up 2 Hankook V4 ES 105s to replace the Generals today. I have the 17s and drive conservatively. $96 a tire.

Two differ tires really. The ASX sport all season is a decent jack of all trades mild sport tire. The UHP is a summer only sport tire, no all season/cold weather traction. The UHP does great in wet but lacks in dry and can be noisy cause of its tread design. Should see about 35K from the Kumho and 25-30 out of the General.

If you want a bit more practicality out of the tires I'd look to the Kumho.

After putting on the Hankook Ventus V4s on the rear of my Coupe, it now handles like a champ without any VDC issues. No more squirmy feel that I was getting with the Generals and extremely quiet. Infiniti has gotten the green light for putting Hankooks on their product line. They are getting positive feedback with them on the Gs and Ms.
