Hello, I'm a longtime lurker here, but finally bought a 2004 g35 sedan (Desert Platinum) after my 540i was totaled. My current tires have low tread, but I have a set of 215/50 17 tires that are almost new. Has anyone put this size on their factory 17's without issue? This will be temporary, maybe a year at the most, until I am ready to buy. I know this will throw the speedo off about 2 mph. Any comments?

I have never seen it done but you should be alright.
BUT, it does give you a reason to find some new wheels with rubber and starting your mods!

Thanks for the reply. I think it should be ok. I didn't want to buy new tires when I know that they aren't going to be on the car until they wear out. There are so many mods available, I'm just trying not to do too much at once.

It's more than 3% off from stock, so you might have VDC issues. I doubt anyone's running tires in that size. The stock 215/55-17's are pretty wimpy as it is, so most people are running 225/55-17 or 235/50-17's if they're still running on the stock 17x7 wheels.Originally Posted by dbow2000

Welcome to G World. Sorry to hear about your Bavarian. The 540 is a sweet car, one of Munich's best ever, IMO.
Yes, I did love my 540-so much power. I'm learning more about the G the more I drive it. This is just a temporary tire solution. There are a few other things, (brakes, suspension) that I want to tackle before I get wheels. Thanks for all the responses.
