Please help me guys

In my car, there's pretty loud whirring & rumbling noise which seems to come out from the wheels around 20 mph. It continues to be pretty noticeable until about 50 mph, and beyond that I think it gets hidden under the tire roar and wind noise. There's no rumbling feeling from the car, so I don't think it's wheel balancing or wheel alignment. The noise becomes unbearably loud when coming to a stop, especially from 30mph or above.

Now, I'm thinking that this is due to warped rotors. But then again, I'm not completely mechanically inclined and because I just got my car a month ago, do not know a whole lot of DIY stuff. So please, guys, any insightful knowledge would be hugely appreciated.

Tire feathering. Go feel the inner edge of your tires. Prob will have abnormal wear (peaks around the entire circumference of the tire).

Well, i am relatively new to this problem as well. Pretty much what i have found as "solutions"

Steps...

a) Replace Tires (tire design can aide in delaying this issue)
b) Alignment
c) "rotate" religiously every ~3k (non directionals make this an easier endeavor)

Thats pretty much all i have found, other than just dealing with it.

 

Thanks for the response. I haven't even thought about that But I don't know if that will resolve the issue... The car tracks pretty straight, even at high speeds, and because I have a coupe, does rotating mean I have to take out the tires from the wheels and switch sides? By the way, my coupe is completely stock with OEM tires. If I just get an alignment, would this fix the issue after a while or is my only choice to swap out tires?

 

Do a search for tire feathering. Its a very prominent issue on the 350z boards as well.

My coupe is bone stock, tracks great, etc. but the tires had this issue soon after i bought it (new tires were installed before i picked it up). I aligned it and swapped sides and continued to have the issue after some miles. Seems like pretty much a crap shoot.

For rotating, it depends on the tires.

If they are symmetric directionals, you have to dismount and switch sides.
If they are asymmetric directionals, they cant be rotated
If they are asymmetric non directionals, you can simply switch sides

Hope this helps. Like i said, i am still learning as well. All i know is that it drives me nuts. Go feel your tires, if you have this issue, you will know it immediately when you rub your hand across the tire.

Once the tires have the abnormal wear, it seems they are pretty much dumpster worthy if you cant deal with the noise.

 

If you drop the car and never put a camber kit in the front, then you have inner tire wear or your alignment is just off.

 

I took a look today, and it seems like the outer parts are showing something like a tear, where several tiny cracks are forming. Its apparentl all around the outer edge of the tire. Would this be an indication that there is indeed inner tire wear as the outer part seems like it as a result of being stretched? I can live with the noise if it doesn't cause other problems with the car, but if I swap to new tires and realign the wheels and still have the noise problems... then I don't know.

Do I align it to factory specs or is there something else I should look for?
