4 x Blizzak 235/45/18?

I bought a second set of stock 18"s for a great deal. My plan is to swap out the summer set with the winter set. It took me 28,000 to go through my original tires and now I would like to order blizzaks and then I'll have my winter setup. I went to TIRERACK.COM and chose 4 BLIZZAK 235/45-18. I know the car comes with a staggered setup but I read on the forum that some people have been running all the same size at each corner. So I placed my order. 4 Blizzak LM-22 235/45-18 for $926.58 total. I get into work this morning and a gentleman from Tire Rack called me to tell me that I couldnt run that setup on my 6-Speed G35 and that I had to maintain the staggered setup. He sounded pretty serious and talked me into changing my order to

2 Blizzak LM-22 225/45-18 (front)
2 Blizzak LM-22 235/45-18 (rear)

My question is if this is really necessary? Can I go with my original order or would I be better off with the stagger. I originally went with the same size all around so I could rotate the tires each winter front<-->rear. With the stagger I'll be stuck with the one installation option.

My original order would have shipped this week since the 235/45-18 are in stock. But since the 225/45-18 arent in stock the order wont ship til mid Sept. So I have some time yet to switch my order.

Any constructive information and help would be greatly appreciated. And for those people that want to go on and on about a 17" winter setup, I already have the 18" rims so thats not really an option.

Please post replies!

I would try to maintain the stock stagger as close as possible so that you don't upset the VDC. I thought that Blizzaks now come in the correct sizes for the G35C, ie. 225/45/18 front and 245/45/18 rears. You should check the Bridgestone/Firestone web page to see if this is the case.

Re: 4 x Blizzak 235/45/18?

I called TireRack yesterday and we went through winter setup options for my 5AT. I had started with 18's and the guy quickly had talked me into 17's. Stating the smaller profile, narrower tire, and taller sidewall, are all a good recipe for winter tires. While I know this is true, I still think I can get away with the 18's. I do know that the 245's on the rear have a tendency to "plow" through snow vs. "cut" through it (tire rack terminology).

Anyway, I was undecided since I was not going to purchase what I had planned I ended the call without placing an order.

The rep also told me their new winter tires would not be in for another month (along with this years test results) so I should call back around mid september to get this years tire models.

Hope this helps.

NYCXLR8,

Thanks for the input! I checked with bridgestone directly and they do make the 245/45-18 and 225/45-18 sized Blizzak LM-22 now. As you mentioned the 245 tire width in the back wouldnt be very beneficial at all in comparison to a thiner wdith to "cut through the snow". I've been thinking about it, and will continue to think about it, but I might go with 235/45-18 all around. If it doesnt work out all replace 2 for 225s in the front the following season. There's someone in canada running 225 blizzaks all around and hasnt had any problems. I think I will sit on it and wait a little bit before buying.

If you're the one out there with 225 width blizzaks on all four corners with 18s PLEEEEEEEEASE POST!

Re: 4 x Blizzak 235/45/18?

scobic.....
I recently purchased (4) Dunlop sp Winter Sport snows...size 225/55/17's and put them on 17X7.5 ASA KA3 rims....

Unless you plan to do hard driving in the winter, which I wouldn't recommend with snows anyway, I think all the same size should not be a problem.....

I too was worried about the VDC/ABS sensors going off all the time.....but I spoke with a member on this forum up in Canada who ran the same size tires as mine on all four corners and had no problems at all.....the dealer he bought his car from actually recommended the set up so you stay within the 3% , and still had the ability to rotate the tires each season.....

Just my input, because I was just as worried and confused, so many different opinions regarding keeping stagger.......I'm sure it comes to play in the summer with performance tires, since you would be driving alot more spirited......

Re: 4 x Blizzak 235/45/18?

GR8TG35,

Thanks for your reply!! After reading it I ordered my winter tires. I went with four 235/45-18 Blizzak LM-22. I have heard of others getting the same tire at each corner and have not had any issues. Plus you brought up the point where you're not driving in the winter like you do in the summer (I know I don't!). I'm sure the setup I picked out will be fine. I will post a reply once I get them installed and have a chance to try them out in the snow this coming winter. Worse comes to worse I'll just buy to new tires to create the stagger again if needed, then I have 2 to hold on to for when replacement is needed.

Thanks for your post it was really helpful! Thanks again!
