Dunlop Winter Sport M3

Dunlop Winter Sport M3
Let me start of by saying these winter tires are absolutely amazing. I had only purchased the rears from the tire shop last year, because that's all they had in stock. I ended up leaving the stock summer 19's on the front, and running the Dunlops on the back for traction for the duration of the winter. I started searching the internet a couple weeks ago for these same Dunlops for the fronts 225/40/19, and it turns out Dunlop does not offer this tire size. Now my question is would it be problematic to run a different set of winter tires in the front, such as the Blizzaks? or even buy another set of 245/40/19 Dunlops and placing on the fronts. Yes, I know the whole staggered concept, but tires shop, as well as others said it can be done. From my review of winter tires it was highly recommend to use the same winter tires all around. Your thoughts please...

I think you are better off looking for a set of 17" rims and getting the winter sports for those. the smaller width is better for winter allowing you to cut through the snow easier than "blowing" through with the wide 19". also winter tires for 19" are probably short to come by as you are already finding out, and they cost a pretty penny more than the 17" size.
I have 17" OEM rims with Winter Sport 3D all around and the control in winter is pretty stunning.

+1 on the 17" package. I'd be surprised if that large and aggressive of a design will fit up front, especially with turning.
To compare... four of the Dunlops would run $980 + shipping + install twice a year. A 17" package with Blizzaks on wheels in the correct size would run $982 + shipping....

Yup, I dont think the cost saving are that much since the tires for 17" is so much cheaper than the 19" size. I picked up a set of 17" OEM g35 coupe rims off ebay for I think 320 or so. once I added the tires I had the whole set for less than 900 I beleive.
The added benefit is that it is far easier to simply swap rims with tires, than swapping around tires.
Back to the real topic though, that tire size in the front will surely be way too large and will affect VDC I am sure. You will probably not want that happening specially in winter when you would want everything helping you out to stay on the road.

My M3s have worked well in 18" through three New England winters. The rears need to be replaced this year. These clear the stock Brembos fine.
