car slower with 20's?

Has anyone with 20's noticed slower acceleration? Thanks for your input.

Just depends on the wheel. No matter what though its going to slow it down. More weight

Yes, I did notice a difference. It is just a bit slower with 20's.

No excuses here. Have 5Zigens on.

Well, yes if you change the diameter of the wheel, larger will make the speedometer slower, and smaller will make it faster, I think that's the right order, however , it won't make any difference in the power of the car, may just seem like it is all!

Re: car slower with 20's?

Increasing the diameter of the wheel and adding more weight is 2 strikes because now the center of rotational mass is further from the center of the wheel and is a higher value. So now you have higher mass multiplied by a longer moment arm resisting movement.

You are definitely right about the larger wheel making the speedometer a lower value. Usually people try to compensate for the change in wheel + tire diameter by buying lower profile tires. You can get pretty close to the same wheel + tire diameter that way.

The price of looking good eh? That being said let me get back to looking for some overweight wheels that I can spend 2500 bucks on so my car looks prettier.

justICE explained it perfectly. High Inertia is your enemy in this instance!

Yes made mine so damn slow I had to supercharge it! haha...
Unless you plan on racing for money then dont worry about it.. put the 20's on ! The G35 looks super hot with 20's and a big fat lip on the rear rims.

Re: car slower with 20's?

My wheels are pretty light for 20's (25lbs in front, 27lbs in back) but I'm sure mine has slowed down atleast a bit. Though honestly I cannot tell the difference speed wise between them and stock.

Re: car slower with 20's?

Thanks for the replies fellas. I see that most run 19's and there are a select few that go 20's. I'm leaning towards 20's at this point. BTW, how 'bout posting some pics of your ride, with 20's?

Here are a couple of pics. They are not very good quality but all I have at the moment. I really need to take some quality pics of my car sometime soon!
