How much are you guys paying to have your springs
How much are you guys being charged for installing the springs? I went to a local body shop and I was told $500. This can't be right right? How much should I expect to pay?
Thanks in advance

Re: How much are you guys paying to have your springs
I had the fronts done (the rear is definitely a DIY) along with my front sway bar done for $145. It took 2 techs about an hour and fifteen minutes so I thought that it was fair.
I did the rears in about 15-20 minutes a side. I'd suggest looking on g-owners.com for a write up by Gsedan35/Drsifu. Very simple.

2 hours in a competent shop, 40-50 dollars per hour labor plus 80-100 bucks for an alignment.
that is what I would pay, as that is how long it took me to do it, including mic'ing all my rotors and pads and rotating my tires
so 200.00 sounds fair, especially if this is the first time they have done it.

Re: How much are you guys paying to have your springs
I'm in Pittsburgh PA. I wonder why I'm getting these crazy prices. I went to another shop and I was quotted $400. If I can find a shop where they would install for less than $100, I would get it done in a heart beat.
Also I was told that the use of spring compressors for a non mechanic could be very dangerous. That's why I dont want to do it myself even though there are DIY guides.

no, spring compressor is not dangerous on this vehicle. some vehicles have a lot of spring in them and will pop off violently. this one is not bad at all. Uncompressed (with the top off) the spring is only 1 coil above the top of your shock.
the hardest part of using a spring compressor is getting all the little arms in the right place. just takes patience. I removed the springs without a spring compressor. you will only need a spring compressor to reinstall the new springs. And since the new springs are shorter you may not even need a spring compressor. You should be able to just push down on it enough to fit the upper mount on. Once you get two threads on the bolt you can tighten it down with a wrench
it really is easy. i did my first set of lowering springs in my driveway at 19 years old without a spring compressor. I replaced my first set of struts when I was 16 with no problems. At that time I had NO mechanical experience. You should have seen me then, I even pulled a tranny to replace a clutch with no experience. and 10,000 miles later I got to do the clutch again due to improper alignment. but the springs on this car are really easy, just watch out for your brake lines on the front.
