Last night got quite cold, and when I started driving it my car was vibrating.
It's weird, for the lack of a better term, it was more like hoping, not the usual vibrating I know due to balance, or worn rubber...it freaked me out, cus it was not being felt on the steering wheel, just hopping, so I called my brother, and his "genius" idea is that the rubber is old (worn, lost elasticity) and when the car stays for a while (which was like 5 or 6 hours), tires develop these flat spots, and then it vibrates, but once driven for a bit it kind of goes away?????? HUH

So the tires prolly have 30 or so KM on them, but there is a lot of thread, and this happens only when first starting to drive, after like 10 or so KM, it gets better, it doesn't go away but it gets better.....

Does this make any sense at all, does this mean I need new rubber, or it's something else?

Normal. Lots of tires develop flat spots while sitting for prolonged periods in cold weather, especially higher performance tires with lots of belts. The vibration should go away once the tires are warm. Drive nicely while they warm up.

 

if i put a bit more air, is it gonna hurt?

 

+1 every performance tire I've had does that a bit until warmed up. Annoying but goes away.

i thought it might have been his tire or tires lost air pressure due to the cold ..

it got cold here my tire pressure went down alot had to put more air into my tires..

check your tires air pressure.. just to make sure ..

 

I've heard that flatspotting depends on the materials used in construction of the tire. Iheard this a long tim ago but I think rayon allows the flatspotting to happen overnight especially when it's cold. It's not dangerous and +1 to drive easy.

 

performance tires are good only until 8 degrees Celsius. Underneath that it will take a lil while for the tires to warm up and after that you should be alright. But those tires need to go away very soon especially in London.
