Alignment Questions

Just had the complete coupe suspension installed on my
sedan, lowered the car 1" in the rear and 1/4" in the front.
The ride is a bit firmer and due to lower center of gravity
seems to hold the road better, so far I'm pleased. My question is when I go for the wheel alignment should I have
it aligned with the specs from sedan or coupe or something else, just not sure and want to make sure its done right..

Re: Alignment Questions

Remember STATIC alignment specs ARE MISALIGNMENT amounts that will create ZERO when the suspension is under stress.

Negative camber is there to compensate for positive camber created as the suspension rolls. Same with toe in to compensate for toe out as rolling forces [at speed] push the wheel back.

When you modify springs you need to calculate and create your own version of alignment specs.

Re: Alignment Questions

Are you sure about those lowering amounts? Our cars are already too low in the back compared to the front. The way you make it sound, it must look like you got a couple of people in the trunklol

Besides the road holding, how is the ride? Any rougher?

"When you modify springs you need to calculate and create your own version of alignment specs."

I think he is saying neither. Since you have different variables than either vehicle as a whole you'll have to find what is right for your setup.
You may be better off talking to a tech in person. Go to your local weekly car shows and start talking to people. You'll find people that will be able to answer your questions or find out the local shops that specialize in our cars. Hope that helps.

Re: Alignment Questions

I don't know what the stock camber gain curves are. When you lower a car [with springs] you don't change the suspension pick up [attachment] points of the lower A arm.

Obviously the shorter wheelbase of the 350Z will result in different pitch tuning fore aft in the spring stiffness ratio......changing the optimized highway speed.

But this occurs anytime you use stiffer springs.

Align the G perfectly to the nominal [midpoint of published range numbers] to start, then experiment from there.
0.25 degree camber changes should be noticable.
Don't change much at a time, only work one end at a time to get the feel of what + or - camber does on the same section of track.

There is never just one correct number as it will change as tires wear and harden from use. As the shocks wear and change temperature, as the tires change temperature, etc.

You can't just swap springs/shocks and expect you are done, that is just the beginning.

Re: Alignment Questions

The ride is fine, not rougher but firmer, the car to me was too
high in the rear end so the drop to me is fine, will give it another week to see if it settles some more then take some
measurements..I had already swapped out non-sport
suspension for a sport suspension last year, anybody
want a sport suspension for a cheap price..Thanks Q45
for your input..
