Folks im planning on switching to winter tires in the next week or so, but after browsing the local tire shops, it appears these tires arent really a good choice for the car.

The tires im after are the Michelin X-ice 2 with the size 22/50R17 all around. They are speed rated as T, and i have been told i would need a tire thats @ least rated H, other wise ill be experiencing vibrations on dry pavement (not sure abt this).

The X-ice 2 is only load rated as 94, but i have been told for a heavier car like the G35 you either need a tire with load rated 98 or XL.

any comments, coz if any of the above is actually true, then i dont think ill be dropping $900 or so on these tires

P.S was actually thinking abt the Dunlop 3Ds, but after hearing abt the recall, have scratched them off the list.

Im just looking for a good ice/slush traction tire.

Since you are looking for a winter tire the speed rating should not be an issue, that is unless you are planning on going faster than 130 mph on a frozen lake. The load rating should be fine unless you plan on carrying a load to exceed 5556 lbs.

I am looking at both this tire and Blizzaks. I tend to lean towards the Blizzaks from what I have seen of both due to its tread pattern to me seems to be better for getting rid of water to avoid hydroplaning. I don't think you would really fault either one for winter use.

I dont think i'll be going any where near the 130 mph and im guessing the "not exceeding 5556 lbs" includes the weight of the car.

I remember reading of the drive side sticker that the passengers and cargo weight should not exceed 340 kgs, nywys i dont think that would be an issue.

Thanks for the verification

Typically people use lesser than normal speed rated snow tires as you won't be achieving the speeds in winter conditions the higher tires are rated for. Have not had an issue selling T rated tire for that car at all.
