Tire rotation on a 6MT coupe

I just got my 6mt coupe today and was wondering about rotating the tires. This is my first car with larger rear tires...225/45/18 in front and 245/45/18 in rear. They are UNIDIRECTIONAL Michelins. So I can't rotate front to back on each side because of the size difference and I can't left to right because of it being unidirectional. Do I just not rotate at all or must I dismount and remount the tires to rotate them? How often should I rotate these original Michelin Pilot Sports?

Re: Tire rotation on a 6MT coupe

Because they are unidirectional, the only way to rotate is to take the tires off the rims and switch sides. I personally won't be doing that, due to wear and tear on the rims and the tire's relative short life . This rubber will only last 2 seasons anyway so the next set will be one size: either 235/45/18 or 245/45/18 whichever is available. Just my preference. There are some peeps that do rotate as recommended.

I spoke to the local Infiniti service dept and they said just leave them unless there's uneven tire wear, then rotating would be $200+ for unmounting and remounting and balancing on the rims.

I have been having the same thoughts in regard to going to one size after the OEM's wear out. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to fight that rotation battle of the different sizes over the life of the car. The 235's seem to be the "compromise" size in regard to diameter.

Has anyone worn out the pilots and gone to a single size?

What are the potential problems, with speedometer, and other concerns?

Re: Tire rotation on a 6MT coupe

I've read on BMW forums of those with the 330i w/ Sport Package, which comes with offset front/rear tire sizes, that it doesn't make much difference. You're driving a performance vehicle, you're putting high performance tires on it. They're going to wear out quickly anyway, and rotating the tires doesn't make much of a difference.

Plus, if your last car was a FWD, you should realize that RWD cars wear tires a little more evenly.. the back tires aren't just along for the ride anymore.
