In love with Volk SF winning, but looking for cheaper alternatives... suggestions?

I've only had my 04 DG coupe for a few months now. I upgraded from a boring car: an automatic Honda accord. The previous owner had curb rashed the wheels something awful, but it didn't bother me at the time because I had never really cared about the look of my ride. It was the mentality I had to have because I was never proud of my car.

Now the curb rash bugs me every time I walk to the car. Small imperfections in the paint are driving me mad. The scrape the previous owner put in the front bumper is something I look at every single day as I walk to my car in the parking lot at work.

Out of all the things I'd like to do, I feel like wheels are the next thing that I'm willing to spend money on. The trouble is I'm having a hard time making the financial decision to invest in something as good as volks. I know they're respected as one of the best, and many people on this forum tend to say it's not even worth upgrading if you don't go for one of the best companies out there.

I have no brand loyalty. What I want is the same design as the SF winning, and something that weighs less than my stock 18's. The cheaper the better.

I can't even decide between 18's, 19's, and 20's. I enjoy driving my car hard sometimes and there are lots of potholes in LA so I'd worry about the performance and quality I'd lose going with 20's.

A lot of you have a lot more experience with this than I do, so what are your thoughts? I don't mind buying something used, but if I did I'd be concerned about the quality I'm getting, and it's nearly impossible (from what I can see) to find a set of the SF winnings used.

Help a noob out!

So you are looking for a mesh type wheel at a price point under the Volks.

Do you have a budget in mind?

For similar weight to the stock 18's, check out 88rotors and his Lm replica's

https://g35driver.com/forums/check-o...88-rotors.html

He was running a special on a complete package shipped with Falken tires.

http://teamlags.com/88-rotors-chikar...35g37350z370z/

May still be running them.

Also check out wheeldude for his linea corse lemans

http://www.wheeldude.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=6345

Lastly, check out Tenzo offerings like this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/19-TE...Q5fAccessories

All in all, these are cast offerings, not forged like the Volks (and many other hi dollar wheels) they are not as light nor as strong. With wheels, quality comes at a cost.

Other slightly less costly forged? offerings

Check out the SPORTS ENGINE: SC3000 and the PRORACER ZR+520 by 5zigen

There are others, just keep looking. Check out the vendor's section for ideas.

The Chikara wheels look pretty damn good. Any reports on whether people have a lot of problems with them bending? The HP designs that guy is selling are also awesome, but I can't afford to jump on this until at the earliest January.

I've always like the tenzo type M's; my main concern with those is that they protrude from the tire instead of being stepped lip. It would be a lot easier for me to scrape them up.

I'm hoping to spend under $2K.

Anyone else who has been in my situation, what did you do? Does anyone know about what a new pair of the SF winnings would run me? If I could get them for $3K or so I'd definitely save up, but anything over that and it goes back to it being a lot of money to spend on wheels. There's a lot of things I can do with $3K at this point in my life (I'm only 23 years old).

Look for used BBS wheels, that is what I did.

Used Jaxed and got lucky

http://www.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/sd.cgi?...ate=&submit=go

There are a few volks in your area (not winnings).

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv...502545085.html

An example of the 5zigen's (Atlanta and not wide enough)

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/pts/1490094558.html

another example fo the 5zigen's (staggered and might be a good fit)

http://tricities.craigslist.org/pts/1487522049.html

Use jaxed for nationwide searches of Craigslist when you are ready.

Might check with these guys to see if other offsets are available.

https://www.speedforsale.com/suprapa...ing-p-534.html

This is a good price for the exact wheels you need.

http://www.350zmod.com/ProductDetail...Code=VOL%20SFW

Pricey and in the $3k or so range.

One thing to note is that i think they do not clear Brembo's without spacers. Search for more info.

That's Branden's Nismo 350Z. He spun out and hit a wall with all impact going towards 1 wheel and the rear quarter panel was completely pushed in. Here is a picture and words from the owner himself:

"ya... well no family was following me...... and any wheel with a lot of force would do the exact samething if it hit the wall like my car did.... and yes i HIT A WALL ..... NO this didnt happen while just "driving and hit and oil slick and everything just magically snapped..." i wasnt really paying attention and just lost control... yeap **** happens and this has nothing to do with the quality of Chikara wheels if you think your volks can withstand that force hit a wall and find out! trust me i've had 3piece wheels before (iforged) and wheels are wheels to me... doesnt matter if i payed 5k or if i pay 1k if they look good i buy them...but like i said **** happens and everything happens for a reason so looks like i get to have another car. For whoever was thinking about getting the wheels do it. they are awesome wheels they look great i've hit crazy potholes on the Modball Rally driving over 3000 miles and nothing happened! i love the wheels and i think they are a great quality wheel its just unfortunate i have to part ways with my car with only owning it for 3 months =[ well on to the next project!!"

The wheels are made to withstand daily driving: including going over bumps, potholes, railroad tracks, road hazard items, but slamming directly into the wall, then no, sorry Chikara's were not designed and tested for direct impact on the wall.

Im gonna have to disagree, I have seen a numerous sidewall collisions against barriers and guard rails and 90% of them wheels did not crack like that.
