The dealer was servicing my car for some stuff and for some squeaking front brakes. I wasn't sure if the pads were worn, so I had them look at them. They said that they added some "shims" to the brakes as part of an update to reduce noise? I am not quite sure what shims are with respect to brakes. They also installed new pads, but said that the old pads did not need replacing, just part of the update. The bottom of the invoice says "As PER BULL.ITB03-069A"

My first set of pads and rotors were replaced at 18,000 miles. Now I have 26,000. Does anyone know for sure if the pads are of the same material as original? Do I brake more often to try to get a new set of pads and rotors before the 36,000 mile warranty?

Hmmmm...I had the shims installed on mine a month or so ago to stop the squeaking brakes, when backing, I was at just around 8,000 miles, seems to have worked so far! I keep seeing conflicting information as to whether the replacement pads are different or not, I was told they are a different compound pad, and I see people saying the braking performance is down some from the original, so who knows, I hate getting conflicting info!
