$$$$ for Tein S Tech Install
$$$$ for Tein S Tech Install
I only paid $150 for the tein S. Tech Springs for my coupe, but local garage(Southern NJ) wants to charge me $425 to install and alignment them. WTF !
Does this sound right!

Oh heck no, are you sure they're not mistakenly thinking their selling you the springs too? I could see a package price of $225 or less as normal.

i charge 50, and most shops here in SD charge anywhere from 80-120. that seems like highway robbery.
regardless of how much he had to spend on his alignment machine, he shouldn't try to make his money back on the first guy who steps foot in the door.

Re: $$$$ for Tein S Tech Install
I am willing to drive almost anywhere in Philly or NJ to get my Tech springs installed. My "friendly" mechanic says it is a 6 hour job and want to change me $400 (after discount).

you charge 50 for alignment? how about installation?

no, i charge 50 for the spring installation...i don't have the facility for alignment. the springs should take about 1.5 hours and the alignment should take about an hour at the most.

Re: $$$$ for Tein S Tech Install
irony,
There is a "How to" on this site that is pretty strait forward. You can do this yourself. All you need is basic tools, which are listed, and a spring compressor ($40 at sears or you can rent one for free with a $40 security deposit at Pepboys). It really isn't all that difficult. I am sure you could find some local areavG owners who would be more than willing to give a helping hand for some beer and pizza. I have changed my suspension twice so far and, from experience, expect to spend about 4 hours if you go it alone in your garage, maybe 3 or less with a helper.
Trust me, you will have a great sense of accomplishment when you are done, and you will learn a lot about your G. It's kinda funny to me all the people who can list all their umpteen modifications with the specs of each, but have never actually got their hands dirty. Someone on this site probably doesn't even know how to change their tire or check their oil. I tell you, turning a wrench is part of the fun. Give it a shot!

av8r, thanks for the link. I will certainly give it a try next weekend. I have done the plenum & CAI mods so I am willing to try this as well.
Humm! I guess I need to rent a spring compressor and buy a power tool as well as a torque wrench.
But I found a shop that will do it for $50 per spring.....hummmm..decisions....decisions

Well, I bought a Sport Tuned Suspension from one of our
board members and had the same dilema, how to get it put
on without loosing an arm and a leg. Infiniti quoted me $600
for the install of all four corners. sssshhhh11111ttttt...
Found a local suspension shop that will do it for $200.
That is for the 2 front coilover shocks and the 2 rear shocks
and springs. They will still make money at $200, it is worth it
to me to have it done right. Then I will take the G to Firestone
to have them do an all wheel alignment. Screw Infiniti!
