Why not chrome?

Just curious. Seems that the general concensus is no chrome wheels. Looking for some 19's to put on an Ivory Pearl sedan. A whole lot more choices today than when I put wheels on my 1972 Chevelle SS. (Chrome Craegers were about it then.)

Re: Why not chrome?

lol chrome is not that heavy! If you have a three piece wheel they only chrome the outter hoop and face. How much more weight is that! Not much!

Re: Why not chrome?

it all depends on what wheel and what size...

i went from stock 16's chrome on my accord to 19's 3-piece chromes and the car wouldnt burn out anymore... made a HUGE performance difference, although it handled better!

04 / Black on Black / aero / splash / prem / perf / cc / 22%tint
z-tube / k&n drop-in / Stillen anti-sway bars / side-blinker mod
Eclipse AudioVideoNavigation 2454 / 10W6 sealed + 250/1 (temporary)

Re: Why not chrome?

Chrome belongs on American Cars and German Cars. Not one Japanese or Italian cars. That's my rule and always will be. A polished lip is okay.

Re: Why not chrome?

i'm glad i don't go by your rule. i have chrome 3 pc. wheels and love them. i get compliments from people of all ages. it really depends on what type of look your looking for. also some colors look better with wheels that are not chromed as opposed to wheels that are chromed. that's my opinion and i'm sticking with it.

Well, there are more variables than that... Did you have wider tires on your 19's then your 16's? Did you have the same type of tire?

I only ask, because my Supercharged GTP, would smoke the hell out of the factory GoodYear Eagle RS-A with anything over 1/4 throttle, but when I installed Z rated Yokohamas, it was noticeably harder to smoke the tires (1/2 throttle or more required) And these were same size rubber, just different type of tire. I'm guessing your stock 16" tires are the same stock Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus that came installed on my wife's TL. Those tires absolutely suck when it comes to traction. I bought those when I got a blow-out on my GTP. After less then 500 miles, I took those crap tires off, and bought the yokohamas.

On a side note, I have a pair of Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus tires with < 500 miles, that I'm looking to get rid of. (225/60-16)

Re: Why not chrome?

It's just personal preference. Some people like chrome some people hate it. All I know is that you should never have spinners!

Re: Why not chrome?

Get whatever looks good to YOU. Chances are, no matter what wheels you get, there will be some that like it, some that don't, and some that don't care.

Re: Why not chrome?

Chrome is not my 1st choice. BUT as long as the wheel design is good, Chrome wheels shall still look good.

Personal Preferrence for WHITE cars: BLUE WHEELS!!!

Unfornately so far, Amistad Type C in Blue is only on White Lexus GS300, not on G35 yet. Kind of wanna see... Will post the GS pictures if anybody is interested.

Thank you.
