Got Brembo Rotors

I just ordered (Coming Wednesday) Brembo slotted brake rotors.

Does anyone know a DIY to install them? I've searched I can't find one. I'm sure just by taking the wheel off looking at the brakes (I've changed the pads on my Brembos before) I could figure them out but I would rather have a DIY... anyone?

Thanks - Joey Avino

Was something wrong with the stock brembo rotors, or you just wanted to upgrade?

Re: Got Brembo Rotors

Upgrade... I noticed when braking alot (Driving my car like a maadman in a park up near us... hehe no cops and nothing by twisty windy roads) my rotors get really hot and my car dosen't stop... This should improve that.

Thanks - Joey Avino

i haven't ever seen one on changing the rotors either...maybe you can make for everyone, to go with the brake pad diy you did. Just a thought.

Re: Got Brembo Rotors

Changing rotors will only lower the rotor temperature if the new rotors weigh MORE.............10% heavier will lower the temperature rise by 8-9%.........pretty much a function of mass.

At normal speeds the air flow speed past rotor does cool them down that fast. The peak temp will still be the same until you back off braking.

Every time you fade the brakes [boil the brake fluid] you should flush the brake syatem totally as boiling changes the molecular mixture of the fluid.......making it boil at lower temps each subsequent time.

What peak temperature do your rotors measure [use IR gun] 1000F or hotter?

The other problem may be that oem testing specs, balance requirements and performance specs are higher than the usual aftermarket various grades Brembo sells to the resellers. They make lots of different grades to fit price points.

Only lab analysis of the metal will tell you what you are getting.

I think upgrading ur brake lines and fluid will benefit more than rotor changes. However, slotted rotors do look better than stock.

Re: Got Brembo Rotors

Woah didn't expecpt these answers... I feel stupid now.. okay so let's start with this. I already ordered the rotors and I like the look over the stock look. Also... they are stronger under extreme heat which is a + I know for a fact. Now... What brake lines and fluids do you recommed to upgrade to?

If I can't find a rotor DIY I will make one like I did with the pads don't worry.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Hey Malx. There are two big bolts behind the caliper. Take those off and the caliper comes off the rotor. Then the rotor just slides off and on comes the new one. Very easy. It might be a bitch though if you dont have an impact wrench for the bolts as they are on pretty tight.

"Also... they are stronger under extreme heat which is a + I know for a fact. " ................Tell us the FACTS!

Don't understand your comment? What temperature are you referencing?

Unlikely that you will melt your rotors before the caliper seals and wheel bearings fail.

Stronger how - like in some custom made version of gray cast iron at a lab foundry? What grade G7 or G10 ?

700C annealing [running them this hot repeatedly] will spherodize the iron carbide in pearlite microstructure resulting in a softening of either grade.
Important to keep ang grade of gray cast iron below 1200F!

Re: Got Brembo Rotors

Below 1200F?... Alright.

By stronger under heat I meant as opposed to the cross-drilled ones. I'm not saying that other stuff isn't going to break first. I just want to do things right the first time and since I'm doing brake upgrades and starting with the rotors... I might as well get good strong rotors that are slotted (they look cool anyway).

LOL! I think the cross drilled rotors look cooler, even though slotted perform better. I wish brembo had slotted-cross drilled rotors that fit the OEM setup.

Re: Got Brembo Rotors

Stillen makes them but they are still weaker than just slotted (if I hear correctly). At leas that's what the guy at Stillen told me. And when he told me I'm better off just getting the slotted ones I ordered them from Brembo... hehe. [img]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/img]

Re: Got Brembo Rotors

I guess by stronger you meant to say that slotted are less likely to crack than drilled rotors under extreme stress. Agree.

You may find that the oem version [what came on the G] of the Brembo rotor may be better than anything you can by in the aftermarket since I suspect Infiniti had severe specs for Brembo.

Re: Got Brembo Rotors

I hate the stock rotors.. They are 500 a piece anyway. I'm going to get my stock rotors re-surfaced and sell them.

Thanks - Joey Avino
