I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
I finally decided on the Eagles and then they dont have the 265/40 size I want. I have the stock coupe rims (18s) and wanted to go to 245/40 and 265/40. What would be the best alternative for the rear? 255/45, 255/40, or 275/40? The 275s seem to be closest in diameter to stock but then alot of people think they are too wide for a stock rim. I know the stock diameters are about .3 inches off so should I go with the 255/40 which is less different in diameter or the 255/45 which is more of a difference? I dont want to freak out the VDC. Please help!!!
Re: I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
how about just getting 245/45/18"? No effect on VDC and you'll get rid of more push this way.

Re: I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
I got 245/45/18 for the rear.
I didn't get front tires but if I did I would get the 245/40/18.
My F1 GS-D3's are coming Wednesday! I will let you know how they are and take photos.
Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
So you are mixing tire style/brands? You at all worried about it? I have the original Michelins still (21K) and the rears are trashed while the front probably have another 5-6K of life in them. I kinda like going a little bigger than stock in the back and a 245/40-18 is actually a little wider than a 245/45-18 in the Eagles so your front tires would be wider than the rears. Might be cool to have a little more oversteer than understeer though I guess. Do you think the 255/45 being another .2 inches taller than the 245/45 would affect the VDC? Post your pictures when you get 'em on please!
Re: I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
i'd go with either the 245/45/18's for the rear or the 255/45/18's and stick with the 245/40/18 for the fronts...and do not..i repeat DO NOT put 275/40/18's on our stock 18" wheels...from experience, its a blow-out waiting to happen...i ran 275/40/18's on the stock 18's for 5 months and the inside of the tire was cracked along the edge of the tire on both sides and i'm sure if i hit a big enough pothole or bump i'd be in some real sh*t, so i suggest strongly not to do a 275/40/18 setup on stock 18" wheels...now if you go aftermarket thats a different story

I will adjust oversteer and understeer with my sway bars.
And it is perfectly find to switch brands on a rear / front wheel drive car. As long as the tires in the rear match and the tires in the front match. All wheel drive cars need the same tires on all four wheels. With rear / front wheel drive cars you can mix brands. And my front tires are fine.

Re: I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
I'm not happy with my GS-D3's. While they offer a slight improvement in grip in comparision to my pevious Kumho MX's. They have a unforgivable quality. They squeal out loud anytime you get close to the traction limit like cheap econo high mileage M&S tires. I CANNOT have tires on my car that announce to the whole world that I'm cornering hard or I just mashed the go pedal as I am NOT a tame driver all the time. When they wear out, I'm done with them. I'll get KD's or S-03's.
BfGoodrich offers the KD in 265/40-18 and in 245/40-18. If I were you however, I would go with Bridgestone S03's 255/40-18 all the way around if you can.

Re: I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
Dont make me go back to the which tire question, please! From everything I have read it is very difficult to squeal the Eagles and even if it is and that is the only issue I am OK with that. It seems the Eagles are similar to S-03's in dry traction, better in wet, and have longer mileage. The S-03's were the other tire I was considering. Think I am going with 255/40-18 in rear and 245/40-18 in front. They are a little wider than the 45 series and a little lower profile and still gives a small stagger with more neutral handling than stock. Thanks for everyones input!

Re: I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
Ok, you made me look at the BF Goodrich g-force T/A KDWs now!!! They actually do seem to be liked more than the Eagles except for the noise level. I didnt really consider them because they are rated as ultra high versus max performance. Anybody have experience with these tires? Then I can get the 265s I want in the rear!
Re: I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
LLSTORY. Look at the treadwear rating on that tire... you're going to et them up in 10K or maybe less lol. They don't even have any rain traction. You're better off with the F1 GS-D3's unless you have tha cash to blow on a new set of tires every 10K.

Re: I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
The tread rating is higher (300 vs 280). I am talking about the Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 (as tirerack calls them). Tirerack customer survey shows the KDs pretty much even with the Eagles except for a higher noise rating for less money. KDs have higher dry rating and lower wet rating but fairly close over all. I dont know...
Re: I want Eagle F1 GS-D3s!!
just be careful of comparing tread ratings between different companies. They really aren't standardized across the manufacturers.
Also, the KD's would make a great track tire or if you live in the sunbelt. Read some of the customer reviews about their wet performance though.
