Advice Needed on TIRES please

Folks... am looking to buy a whole set of 4 tires for my 2003 Coupe. Car is stock save for a Z tube and KN filter. Only 12k miles on the car, but still have OEM Michelin Pilot Sports... I think she's due for some new shoes. Sizes needed are OEM 225-45-18 and 245-45-18 rears. Am looking to buying the tires within a month, if price is right.

I am basically looking for a summer only tire... don't really need wet performance, since my car has never seen rain. I don't track the car either. I have been debating between the following:

1) Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs - these won Car and Driver's comparo not too long ago.
2) Toyo Proxes T1R
3) Hankook Ventus V12
4) Nitto Invos
5) Anything else you guys recommend?

Also, please recommend the best place to buy the tire you recommend for the best price. I'm trying to stay around 800 bucks or so.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Speaking from experience - go with the T1R's over Hankook's. The Hankook's have a really soft sidewall. Dunlop makes good stuff but I have never had them on my G.

The best summer tires, if you are looking for performance, are the Dunlop Star Spec, Bridgestone RE-11 or Advan AD08. If you where to ask the people in the Auto-X/Track section they would tell you to get one of those three. They all come in the size you are looking for. I happen to run the AD08 in 275/30/19 front and 295/03/19 rear and they are great on the track.

If you are looking at getting high mileage out of a set of tires then look for other tires.

Thanks for the input. No, I am not looking for high mileage out of my next set of tires. Not even looking for wet performance. I put maybe 1k - 2k miles a year, and never gets driven in rain.

Those Dunlop Star Specs really intrigue me... they're about 200 a pop. The Yokes Advan AD08, are they good? You like them? How are they holding up for you?

What do you like about them? I'm debating between Invos (cheapest of the 3), T1R's, and Star Specs...

The INVO boast low to zero road noise, great grip while producing long lasting tread life. Boring side wall idesign s about the only complaint I could see. Only reason not to like them is if you wanted more grip. Maybe look into the new Nitto NT05 for a grippier alternative.

I would go with the Star Specs, they are a very very successful tire and should offer you more grip than the T1R's. There's a reason why they are the new choice for auto-x'ers. If they were available in my 19" sizes I would probably go for them as well.

the invos did terrible (8th place) in the car and driver tire shootout. While the star specs came in first. For your purposes, I think the star specs is the ticket.

I auto-x my car and the AD08's are great. Several people have them this year. The Star Specs are great tires also but didn't come in the size I needed. I have been to 6 events so far this year and they are holding up just fine. They are also a great tire for a track day if you don't want to switch to an R compond at the track.

Yeah I'm looking for overall best grip in the dry. Based on that Car and Driver link you posted, if I REALLY only cared about dry, I should go for the Kumho Ecsta's but, I had Ecstas before on my RX7, and I wasn't too impressed compared to my S02's at that time. I will stay away from them, particularly when CD really dinged them for wet.

Sounds like everyone is voting for Star Specs... I don't Auto-x, but I would just like some tires that grip like crazy on the street.

Folks have suggestion for the cheapest, reliable retailer I can get them from? Tirerack has them for about 200 a pop.
