Changing Barrels
Changing Barrels
Im thinking of changing my barrels but i want to know just how it works. i have 19x9 -1 with a 3" lip in the front and 19x11 -3 4" in the rear. i want to swap the rear setup onto the front and then get barrels for the front rims to make it 19x12 ~-5 and a 5" lip and put it in the rear. this would work right? TIA

Who makes the wheels?
I have contacted Rays Engineering Japan and Mackin Industries (the main US supplier) and both have said due to liability issues they cannot sell just the barrels. Basically, they don't trust people to take out the screws, swap the face onto another barrel and torque the bolts back down.
I have taken my wheels apart twice... it's not rocket science and very easy.
The only thing they would offer was to sell me another set of wheels and then I could do whatever I wanted - which would be to order the new ones in the offsets I wanted and switch the faces... then sell the "hybrid" set to get back a little of my money.
Stupid if you ask me.
This is just Rays though (who makes Volk, Gram Lights, G-games, Roja, etc., etc.) - other companies might be different?

Are you widening the width of the barrel for wider tires? If not, I would just tell HRE you are looking to get a 5'' lip on your current rear wheels by just switching out barrels.
Since HRE's are more "custom" than Rays wheels, I'm sure they will hook you up with it and know the offsets offhand to make it work. You may have to ship them your wheels so they can do it though. Do HRE's "bolt" like some Volks do?

I already got an email back:
Replacement rim part costs are listed. It is required the wheels be sent to HRE for evaluation & repair by our factory.
Attached is our price list for your review, let me know if any questions.
Outer Rim $275.00ea. Finish in Polish or Chrome Included
Inner Rim $225.00ea.
Labor $100.00ea. to include Run Out Balance, Cap, Logo, Seal & Valve Stem
S&H is extra.
By providing your wheel serial #’s off one wheel we can id your current fitment & rim parts applied.
The Serial #’s are stamped behind the center face between the lug holes, there are two sequences listed.
i want my x9 to be x12. cause i just want to go ahead and put the rears up front and swap the fronts' barrels and get a 12" with 5" lip in the ~-5 area.
so how would i tell them this?
