Brake Warranty- Wear Question

I could have sworn that someone posted the wear specs on the pads and rotors that Infiniti uses to determine whether they'll replace them under warranty.

I had my front pads and rotors replaced this summer, but they said my rears hadn't yet worn down to where they could be replaced under the extended warranty.

Does anyone have this info? I searched, but I couldn't find it.

Just start driving like a madman, heavy on the gas and
brakes. They will replace the rears when you have worn
them down a bit more, and wile they are at it, replace those
worn front ones too!

Re: Brake Warranty- Wear Question

Since Infiniti's inception 2 mm pad remaining has been the minimum. Various pads start out at 11-8 mm when new.
G35 front 11.0mm repair limit thickness 2 mm
G35 rear 8.5 mm repair limit thickness 2 mm

Obvious the number of applications per mile and duration and pedal pressure make up the variable of how many miles one gets.

We see 15,000-35,000 miles as the ranges on the same cars in the same area. Women tend to wear pads faster on average than business men. Those in bumper to bumper traffic with 10 applications per mile get much worse life those wher the bulk is interstate cruising without braking once per mile.

Count your applications per mile on your typical daily drive

Two different dealers told me 2mm before they would replace the pads.

Re: Brake Warranty- Wear Question

Actually, I'm wondering about the thickness spec of the rotors, especially the rears. I'd like to have them replaced under warranty as they did for the fronts.

Re: Brake Warranty- Wear Question

Front rotor new 24mm worn out 22mm runout 0.0028" max
Rear rotor new 16mm worn out 14mm runout 0.0039" max

2 mm of rotor wear is approx 7% weight reduction so rotor temp goes up 7% in severe stops ........not really material till multiple 80mph sequential stops say 6 in 5 minutes.

Rotor wear is primarly a safety factor when pads are worn out, as the 2mm plus the 18 mm [from both worn pads] means the caliper pistion is moved out 20mm [0.8"] from normal new parts position.......stretches piston seals on caliper.

The seal spec is 1" [25.4 mm] so pads can be totally worn to backing plate [no pad material period] and a rotor undersized by 1.4 mm below replacement 22mm.

Lots of safety reserve in 2mm rotor wear limit!
