Winter Wheels and Tires Help
Hi everyone,
I am going to be driving my g coupe in the snow since it is my only car, and after a scary 2009-10 snow season im really thinking of some snow tires and rims. I've been looking at some websites and they have packages of wheels and tires that are rims: 18x8 and tires 225/45/18. My g has the stock 19'' rims on it and im scare that the new sizes will make the car's computer or something go wrong.
So is there anything that i should be watching out for or is it as simple as mounting the new set and driving off?
Also can anyone provide some input on how is it to drive the coupe with snow tires on it.
Thanks for any help in advance.
Melvin

The 18x8 with 225/45/18 spec is more for the 03-05 G35 coupes, but it will still work fine for you 06. You wont have any issue going with that size. My suggestion is to actually find a set of OEM coupe 18s with TPMS already installed and just get the tires you want.
You could stay with your OEM 19s, but you'll find more tire options with the 225/45/18 size.
Also, I dont know if the fact you're a little more north than I am here in MD, but you might be able to get away with just using a quality allseason tire like the Continental DWS. It has some of the best winter performance out of the other all season tires in its class. Check with your other local G guys and see what their experience suggest. I managed pretty well with allseasons this past winter.

You can find even more (and cheaper) options in 17" sizes. On my '04 (with Brembos, so require more backspacing and clearance) I run 17x7.5" wheels with 225/50 up front and 225/55 rear. You still need a diameter difference front to rear to keep VDC happy. I have been running the Dunlop Winter Sport M3/3D since '04-05 and have been extremely happy with them in wintry weather and in the dry. Look on Tire Rack at 17" combos.
17's will work great, 18's are also an option. You can view all of our winter options for the car at the following link Winter Wheel Packages
Whatever size you choose, try to find the thinnest. Wider = not better when it comes to winter duty.
And don't even think about all seasons. Buy some dedicated snow tires. Blizzak, etc.....

This past winter was a fluke and was crippling enough to not require MOST people to drive anywhere because they were busy shoveling out the 4' snow piled up on their cars and sidewalks.

Depends what you run for your summer tires. Last time I ran Michelin pilot sports summers. One flake of snow and that's it, you're done. So I bought some bliizzaks for my oem 17s. RWD and open diff = hard to get around when even when there is a dusting of snow
