Going from 275/35/19 to 275/40/19; will they rub?

Hello, trying to get some tires really really soon but need help,

I've searched for an hour and can't find an answer to my question. I'm currently running 245/35/19 & 275/35/19 and need new tires. I want to move up to 40 series because at some point I know I'm going to slam into a damn pothole and bend my rims. Also, I am hoping to quiet up the ride a bit with a thicker tire. Will these tires fit without rubbing? Currently on my 35 series tires I don't get any rubbing at all. Here is my setup:

- s-tech (finger gap all around)
- 9.5F and 10.5R widths (not sure on offset, but its the common Racing Hart
RS-721 offsets)

thanks in advance for any insight!

Keep it at a 35 series... 40 is WAY to big

I've seen a few guys on here go with a 40 series front (245/40/19). What if I went 40 up front and kept 35 in ther rear? When I've bent rims in the past it was always the front rims and never the rear. Do you think that would look if I did that?

Thanks gents

I had 245/40 in frt awhile ago. It rubbed a little since it was a bit taller and wider. Switched to 245/35 which looks way better to me. Plus I'm lowered on coilovers. No rubbing without angling up or down driveways. I think no matter what size tire on G35 19" rims, if you hit a pothole with enough impact you will bend it. The only other option is switch to to 18" rims.

Well I got tired of bent rims as well..so I change from 245/35/19 front, 275/35/19 rear to 245/40/19 front and 275/35/19 rear. In my opinion it feels much better and it doesn't look that different actually. It's really not that much taller if you do the math. I got the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's because of their reviews and so far they feel really quiet and smooth.

275/35 has the same profile as a 245/40

40 percent of 245 is 98mm tall.
35 percent of 275 is 96.35mm tall.

you are gaining 1.65mm of height... not worth it for the loss in traction.

Nice.... have any pics? You did exactly what I ended up doing. I ordered 245/40/19 for the front and kept the rear tires the same. Pot holes were only issues for me for the front rims. Checking the Miata tire calculator, the switch will only yield approximately .4 more of sidewall. Should be perfect and am looking forward to the added height and re-assurance.

again, you have any pics of your current setup?
