Mixing Tires on a 2008 g35x
Mixing Tires on a 2008 g35x
My OEM crappy 225/55/17 Goodyear RSA's have crapped out. Problem is they replaced the rear two tires already when I bought my G35 CPO.
I really don't want to replace my tires with Good Year RSAs as they wear out too fast.
I also don't want to spend money on four new tires.
So here I am wondering if I can do a tire rotation (stick the good year RSAs in the front of my car) and buy two new tires and stick in them in the rear of my car without it screwing up the ride.
I was thinking of getting the Goodyear Eagle GTs, as I have read that they do not wear nearly as fast as RSAs (they get like a 50k Warranty).
Is this ok, or do I need to replace all four tires? Are their better tires out there in the 100$ range as well? From prices online the GTs range from 120-150$.

What you said is right, I just called up Just Tires and they told me that you can't really mix tires on an AWD setup anyways.
So I'll probably just buy RSAs exactly like you said. AWD apparently wears them out even faster.

No. You aren't touching any alignment specs. I bet even a retail tire place would frown upon buying used tires (of the same brand/size) but it's only way of getting out of the replace two cycle. Or just bite the bullet and replace all 4 now.
I ended up just replacing all four tires. Why?
Because Goodyear Eagle GTs are 130$ versus the Goodyear RSAs which cost around $190. It was almost like buying 3 get one free, and I get out of the stupid 2 tire replacement cycle. Plus the Eagle GTs are just better tires.
$640 for installation of all four of the tires, I was pretty happy with this. It was going to cost around $500 for replacing just two tires.
Unfortunately, my dealer didn't leave me with a master key to my locking lugs. So I had to pay an extra 100$ for the shop to chisel the locks off.
All in all, I'm out 300$ dollars over my original idea, but have all four tires replaced, and my tires are just rated better now. The OEM Tires are just crappy all around.

They've been well reviewed. They are cheap, and they have a 50k warranty versus the nil warranty of the Goodyear RSAs.
I haven't actually used them yet though.
