yea i think we are talking about 2 diffrent things here but BEST way to solve this is to TAKE A REAL picture of what you speak of.

The area I believe he is talking about is around where the studs go in. Most cars they have round grooves so that the stud will go in and stay tight, but wont bind from metal to metal contact. The stud itself with usually be square ended.

2006 Vortech supercharged Sedan

The little horizontal notches right after the head, the hub has the same thing on the inside of the hole that the stud goes in on the back, and if its not properly inserted it can destroy the pattern and the stud will just spin freely, the hole on my hub is perfectly smooth
