Crap, rear wheel wobles

i jacked my car up yesterday and found out that my passengers side rear wheel is not holding on and just wobles side to side making driving the car dangerous as hell since it feels like the rear end has a mind of its own where it wants to go, so what i need to know is how to fix it, and is it something i can do or shop only for this one

Did you take the rim off to see what's broken? If it wobbles that much, should be easy to spot the problem.

+1

You need to see what's broken. Should be easy to spot. We can't tell you how to fix something if we don't know what's wrong

Unless you ran over a concrete block and totally screwed up your axle it's probrably a bad wheel bearing. I can hear mine "whirring" now. When it's warmer out I will swap in a new hub assembly

Put your wheel back on. If it wobbles its your bearing. They go out. It will have to be pressed out and a new one on since they are two seperate pieces.

^ Negative. You can just buy the Hub Assembly. I saw some for like $150~ if you want specifics, just search for "G35 Rear and Front Hub Assembly" in Google or Yahoo. There's even a few DIY's around for it. Saves you from having to get the two pressed together.

Rockauto.com sells a bearing/hub assembly for the rear for $123 Made by Timkin, which is a major bearing manufacturer.

If you want to reuse your old hubs and have access to a press, the bearing only is available as well for about $60

Of course, determine of the bearing is the failed part before ordering anyway. Could be something else.

you can replace studs easily. hammer them out and replace with new ones. They cost like $2-4 per stud.

Now if you have a bad bearing, might as well get the whole hub.

WHat was your problem?

I'm in the process of changing a rear wheel bearing now, waiting for the new one to be pressed.

a hub cant be stripped. It doesn't thread on to anything, it just gets pressed/pushed in.

hubs normally dont go bad, bearings do easily. We replace the whole hub assembly because we are doing it ourselfs and dont have a press at home. But if your taking it shop then just tell them to replace the wheel bearing. Its the same amount of labor BUT cheaper on the parts. Wheel bearings run like $20, Hub assemblies are $150 or something.

something to think about..
