245-40-18s on front (coupe)?
Has anyone put this size tire on their coupe front end? 'Just wondering if there is anything negative (i.e. bad fit on the rims, wheel well rubbing, etc.) that could happen by going to a slightly wider front tire (as opposed to stock 225-45-18s), besides minimal speedometer error. On that note, does anyone know whether the speedometer reads off the front or rear wheels? Thanks.

I was just at the dealership today to ask pretty much the same question. They told me that they had to be 225s on the front because they will rub. I'm not sure if thats just 'recommended' or if it would actually be ok. I am wondering the same thing though because I want to put snow tires on all 4 that are 245/45/R18 (same as the back).

Your dealer is probably full of it. There are tons of people running 245/40-18 on the front. Myself included (once my rims arrive)...
Also, your speedometer will not be off. The car is RWD, so the speedometer is associated with the back wheels, not the front... (Speedos are usually connected to the tranny)

Thanks, guys. Please let me know if the dealer IS full of BS about the rubbing when you get your new tires on... If anyone else can speak from experience, please share it.

I think he is talking about putting them on the stock 18's......I don't know if the recommend that wide on a stock wheel?? A good tire / wheel comppany should be able to tell you.
But I have a set of Volks - 9" w in front with the 245/40's and there is plenty of room.

The dealer is full of it! I have 245/40/18's on the fronts in my coupe 6sp and there is no rubbing, even when the wheel is cranked all the way over. I tested that as soon as I had them installed. I did notice that when I was looking for 255/45/18's for the rear, some manufacturers had specs which listed 8" rims as the bottom end of the rim size and other did not! All tires will have the recommended rim size in the specs, you just have to look for it. I wouldn't try and squeeze a tire on the 8" stock rims that is listed at 8.5-10" rim width. Just make sure the manufacturer that you pick for the 255 rears has 8" listed at the minimum spec range. I have a set of Kuhmo all seasons that fit great. Fronts - 245/40/18 Rears - 255/45/18. The back end looks better with the 255's on stock rims. I'm very happy with them and you can be confident that it WILL work.
Last thing - The Diameter of the tires are almost identical to stock. This is key, if you match the diameter then you don't have to worry about messing up the VDC or changes in your speedo. The diameter of the 245/40/18 fronts is only off by .1 inches in the front compared to the stock 225/45/18. the 40 is a percentage of the 245 width so the wider tire at a 40 profile is about the same as the 225 wide tire are a 45 profile, get it. Just check the diamerter on the stock tires, and the diameter on the tires you want and make sure they match. Diameters will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer so look at it!

Re: 245-40-18s on front (coupe)?
For those that are running the 245/40/18's up front on stock
wheels, do you get any tramlining from grooves on the
road? That was my main concern.
Im thinking about doing the Ziex512's in those sizes
after the butt-ugly Pilots wear out...
