Angry Powder Coat Chipping???

I have a question as to how durable the coating is supposed to be. I recently took my wheels to get them coated. After I placed them back on my car I noticed that it's already starting to chip. Even after putting on the lugnuts with a rachet, the color is slowly chipping off...

Is coating this weak or did i get ripped off and the guy just paint them? How would I know if they are painted or pc???

Sounds like they did a poor job. Powdercoating is supposed to be very durable.

How thick is the material coming off? If it's thick, good chance it's PC. But if it's thin like paper then it's paint.

I'd take them back and tell him to redo it. If it's powder coat then he didn't bake it long enough and let it cure.

I had the same thing happen to me. You didn't get ripped off or anything, the PC chips. It hardens over time so when you first get it done it isn't as strong as it will be. The rocks just from the road chipped mine and the impact driver did too around the lugs. What i did was touch it up with a cloth dipped in the same color paint and just touched up around those spots. I haven't had any problems since and you can't tell where the chips are unless you examine them thoroughly.

^ that is not the case. Powdercoat is baked for a good reason. So the powder cures.

The powdercoating is not malleable after it comes out of the kiln, it's not like an epoxy with a slow setting catalyst.

I recommend you take them back and get them recoated. But that's me and I've never had anything that I've powdercoated chip off easily.

What did you pay for it?
