Question on modifying wheels/tires on G35 Sedan

I'm a little disappointed with the few tires available in the stock 215/55 R17 size, so I'm thinking of buying new 18x8" rims so that I can put 225/45 R18 or 235/45 R18 tires on them. Has anyone done this? Any advice? I don't want to degrade anything, like the VDC, speedometer accuracy, handling, etc...

Thanks,
John

Hey.. this question looks familiar. I just saw it in the Sedan forum.

VDC is okay as long as you put 4 of the same size tires on all four corners, don't stagger the tires on the sedan (like they do on the coupe).

For speedometer/odometer, pay attention to the tire diameter, and keep it as close as possible to the stock size. 235/50R17 and 235/45R18 are just about perfect. 225/55R17 and 225/45R18 are not as close, but still within allowable tolerances.

Infiniti officially says 225 is the widest you should go on the front. I figure 235 is still okay. 245 is pushing it, but I see some others are doing that -- don't know what would happen if you hit a hard bump with the steering wheel fully turned with a tire that wide, though.

If you scan through the old topics here, you'll see what many others are doing.

Thanks for your feedback! I think I'll go with the 235/45 R18s...

The only catch with 235/45R18, is that the tire selection is as limited as (if not worse) than the stock 215/55R17. Tire Rack recommends 235/50R17 for 17" rims, and 225/45R18 for 18" rims for our sedans. There are plenty of good performance tire choices available in these sizes.
