Question for Gsedan35 or anyone else (concerning H-Tech Springs)

I've spent the last two hours of my life reading about Tein H-Tech springs and have a question.

Just bought a 2005 G35 Coupe with the Sports Suspension upgrade (19" wheels). I want to lower the car slightly for a more garessive look but want to avoid having to buy camber arms and toe bolts, etc...

I just want to put in springs to lower the car. Its my daily driver and don't need to have it track ready or anything..again...just looking for something more aggressive.

I guess my research is down to the H-Tech as they have the least amount of drop. The question now goes to the coupe or Z H-Tech (with the Z giving an extra 1/2" to its advertised drop)? Remember, I want to make sure the alignment will go back into spec...I really want to avoid added expenses) Which one do you believe is best?

Do you suugest that I don't even do it considering I just spent $1600 to get the suspension upgrades on a brand new 2005?

I've read your post discussing the differences between the springs and OEM springs along with the tranfer of roll %. What exactly do these numbers mean. Should I go softer or harder than my stock "upgraded" suspension springs (which I have no idea what they are).

Thanks for any help you (or anyone who answers) gives.

Jason

Jason,

Funny you say 2 hrs.. I spent 2 months!! I had same issues as you, daily driver wanted to be able to set it back to camber. I have a set of 19" aftermarket 5 zigen Hypers on my 6mt coupe.

I talked to a bunch of guys and finally went over to a shop in fullerton, (cant remember the name) but have the info at home. The guy straight out told me, if your just going for a lower look and dont plan on racing your car the H-TECHS for the G are the best. I dont know about the Z's because I wonder why there are two types of TIEN springs eventhough its the same platform. Im sure a member on this board will easily inform you about the Z springs.

At first the drop was very noticeable in the front and the back tended to look higher. Probably a visual effect because front being lower. After a month, the front dropped a bit more and the rear started coming down. I would have to say that I can barely fit 2 finger in the front and 2 1/2 in the back. I had my camber checked and all were able to go back to specs except the front passenger which was off by .01 (tech told me not even noticeable). I have about 3000 miles on my tires and they look like the day I got them. The ride is a bit stiffer and you will feel the road a lot more than stock. I promise you will not like the rear drop at first but be patient and 2 months later youll be glad you were. I rode in my buddies stock Z and can guarantee you my ride is alot better. (Fiance didnt even notice car was lowered till I told her)

Hope this helps.

I talked to Tein about the 350Z vs G35 H-TECH springs and was told their is a difference and it has to do with the fact that the G35 weighs about 200 lbs more than the 350Z and that the G35 works better with a lower spring rate in the rear than the rear of the 350Z. I installed the G35 H-TECH springs about 2 weeks ago and the springs have not settled yet. My car came down 5/8" in front and 1/4 inch in the rear, measured at the rear liscense plate and the front cut out for the toe bar.

Thumbs up H Techs

I just installed the Z H Techs in my coupe today and am very happy.
The last thing you want to do is add to the understeer in this car!
It pushes bad enough.
I got approx. a 3/4" drop F & R. The ride is not rough but feels more planted.

I'm curious as to how the handling is with the Z H-tech's vs. the G H-techs. Considering the softer spring rate in the rear for the G H-techs, i'm assuming the handling has deteriorated with those springs. I would think the more aggressive spring rates of the Z H-tech's would make the car handle slightly better...opinions?
